Dr. Karen E Hannaford, MD

Dr. Hannaford joined Phoenix Perinatal Associates in September 2016. As a Vermont native (and Sun Devil!), she recently moved back to Arizona. Dr. Hannaford attended Arizona State University for her undergraduate degree where she received a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in French. She then attended the University of Vermont to receive her medical degree as a Freeman and Larner medical scholar. Dr. Hannaford completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Following residency, she completed a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where she also obtained a master’s degree in clinical investigation at the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences. Dr. Hannaford is a member of a variety of professional societies and organizations including: the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM), American Institute of …Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) and the Phoenix Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. Dr. Hannaford enjoys teaching medical students and residents as well as mentoring others within the field of OB/GYN. Her research interests include hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, gestational weight gain and the mode of delivery for periviable births. Dr. Hannaford has published peer-reviewed manuscripts and has given both oral and poster presentations at national society conventions including SMFM and AIUM. She looks forward to continuing to investigate how to improve the health of both mothers and babies during high-risk pregnancies through continued clinical research. Her clinical interests include caring for mothers with complex medical problems including congenital heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and rheumatologic disorders.
