Dr. Karen Elizabeth Kohatsu, MD

Dr. Kohatsu is a wonderful doctor. I have been a patient of hers for the last year. She is friendly and really cares about her patients. She is an expert in her field and I have complete faith in her abilities.

She was the on call dr. After I delivered my baby. I had a post partum hemmorage, they failed to diagnose so they shoved a Catherine up me to empty my bladder while I was not under any meds. Even though I told them I could feel that my bladder was empty. They ignored me and shoved on up my already sore lady parts without my permission because my fundus was still high. Then, after they realized the hemmorage was internal, she opened up my super swollen area and blood started gushing out. Then she he proceeded to shove her hand up inside me and grind my stomach internally and externally. Granted I was hemmoreading because placenta wasn't fully released at delivery and this was now considered an emergancy- because the nurses at the hospital failed check my fundus in a timely manner due to shift changes ect. No explanation, no pain meds, no checking on me after... all business- she was on and out and I was in pain for months- 8 months later I am going in to a specialist for… reconstruction because the damage it caused. I gave her a 2 star because I wasn't rushed to the OR and cut open- so I guess that's one thing she avoided.

First and foremost, Dr. Kohatsu delivers wonderful care and has an excellent bedside manner....that is when you can get through her nurse Vicki to speak with her. Nurse Vicki is a nightmare. I was mortified by her downright unprofessional manner in her communication and treatment of patients. I was called by the wrong name 3 times during one conversation, and literally shouted at by Vicki all because of questions I asked regarding my treatment. Clearly I asked questions that were asking too much of this nurse, but I do feel it is my right to voice questions and concerns regarding my medical treatment.I do not appreciate anyone raising their voice to me - let alone those I seek for medical care. How things are coded on my chart are not things I deal with regularly or understand, and shouting at me certainly doesn't help to clarify anything -- except for the fact that I need a new doctor. All I do know is the way standard, annual tests were coded allowed for me to pick up the entire… bill to the tune of several hundred $$$ instead of my insurance. Nurse Vicki is the gatekeeper to all communication with the doctor. It took me numerous conversations with Vicki to get through to the doctor to ask follow up visit questions. She told me "the doctor is too busy, you should make another appointment to ask her follow up questions." When the doctor finally called me back it was MONTHS later.I discussed all of these concerns with Valerie, the office manager, who was very pleasant. I did let her know I would be sharing this experience publicly, as no patient should receive this type of treatment. She warned me "remember your experience with Vicki is a reflection on Dr. Kohatsu." Well, yes, but so is the staff Dr. Kohatsu selects to "care" for her patients.Certainly not the experience I expected to receive as a new patient.

I had a very disappointing experience with this doctor and her office. It took me few days to make an appointment, waited 45 minutes to be seen. She made the wrong diagnose and never did the follow up as she promised. I do not recommend this doctor even though she seems like a nice person. The reason I saw her was because another doctor refer me to her.

I am currently pregnant with my second, Dr. Kohatsu delivered my first. The bad memories just came flooding back and I decided to write this review. Dr. Kohatsu diagnosed me with low amniotic fluid and told me I would need to be induced. A very standard diagnosis for an impatient doctor. I got a second and third opinion both of which told me my amniotic fluid was fine. I went home, I did not want to another pitosin, epidural c-section story. This infuriated Dr. Kohatsu, she demanded I came in for the health of the baby. She broke my water, induced me and patronized me the entire time. The unnecessary medical intervention is ridiculous. It is merely a convenience and monetary benefit for the doctor. Dr. Kohatsu proceeded to tell my husband that due to my prior "antics" she was missing a bbq. Here's the thing. The doctor works for YOU. Any doctor that treats you like an idiot and patronizes you into thinking there is something wrong with you and pushing unnecessary medical intervention… will get a bad review from me, hence the 1 star. Stand up for yourself, don't let a doctor make you feel stupid. We have been having babies for many many years. Watch "The business of being born". Dr. Kohatsu could have played one of the doctors scaring women into thinking having a baby requires drastic intervention on all levels. Ridiculous.

I went to Dr Kohatsu at the suggestion of a friend who told me Dr Kohatsu was a very good doctor and that she thoroughly explained everything to her patients. On my first visit to her I found everything my friend told me to be true. Dr Kohatsu is very knowledgeable, she explains everything(all your options) and she ask if you have any questions and takes the time to listen. She has always ended with " if you need anything or have any questions please let me know". She is very gentle and patient-all the things you should want in a physician.

I am very opinionated when it comes to selecting a Dr. for such important times as the birth of my children and pediatrics. Dr. Kohatsu has delivered my first 2 babies, and she is currently assisting me through my 4th pregnancy (I had 1 miscarriage). I recommend her highly, and trust my life and the lives of my babies to her. She is wonderful during prenatal appointments, and her bedside manner during labor and delivery is excellent. I also used her for the circumcision of my son and she was quick and efficient.If you are looking for a Dr. who cares about you and has great attention to detail I recommend Dr. Kohatsu 10 times over. This doctore is very gentle, caring, and knowledgable. I would recommend her over any male doctor. Her caring extended before, during and after my surgery. I saw her for over one year, she did not wavier in her care for me

i like dr. kohatsu so much, very comfortable doctor to be with. She's going to explain everything to you, very honest, A conservative doctor and reasonable. The staff, they'll take care of you too like dr. Kohatsu. When i had my surgery, i didn't feel anything, she was visiting me everyday and monitoring my condition.When the nurse called her at midnight, you can easily reach her. Very good and awesome doctor! Love you doc for saving my uterus!
