Dr. Karen Ann Kovalow-Stjohn, MD

Dr Kovolow St John was my rheumatologist for years in Indiana and she is wonderful! Very knowledgeable and kind, easy to talk with. Takes time to listen. Our loss is your gain! Hated to see her leave Indiana!

I had my new patient appointment today with Dr. Kovalow-St. John and she was amazing! The staff were very welcoming and my appointment was on-time. The doctor spent about 40 minutes with me asking lots of questions, letting me give her details about my symptoms without interrupting me or making me feel rushed and taking copious notes! She gave me hope that she could help me find the right treatment for my arthritis when others had either dismissed my concerns or tried to pawn me off on another provider. It is such a huge relief to find a doctor with this level of compassion especially after so many difficult years of just getting other doctors to believe me. I finally feel like I may actually get my life back!

I had an first appointment with Dr. Kovolow and for reasons beyond my control, I missed my appointment and did not realize until the following day. I called the next day and made many apologies and tried to reschedule and was told that her policy was she would no longer take me as a patient because I missed the appointment. I have never heard of this. After all we are human and do make mistakes! She must be perfect in every way! It has never been my practice to schedule appointments and be a no show. Thankfully, I was able to find another rheumatologist and he has been able to help me tremendously and genuinely cares. All good things happen for a reason!

My family member saw Dr. Kovalow-St. John several times for debilitating pain and disfigurement of several fingers. Dr. Kovalow-St. John referred her to a neurologist and when the neurologist wasn't able to come up with a diagnosis, she was referred to Dr. Kovalow-St. John again. Dr. Kovalow-St. John didn't offer any treatment or offer to refer her to anyone else. She was abrupt during visits and failed to timely return phone calls. Dr. Kovalow-St. John's failure to effectively listen to my family member symptoms to diagnose her condition resulted in many more months of soul-crushing unending intense pain and marked increase in the degree of deformity in her affected fingers. Another, more competent doctor diagnosed her with lupus in one visit and recommended surgery.

She gives you direct eye contact makes me feel listened to. She is personable so I feel comfortable. Seems heartfelt and caring.

Had to wait to get scheduled to see the doctor since I was a new patient and this took some months. She was worth the wait, she determined the cause of my joint pain when no one else could and gave me some great recommendations. My pain is manageable now and under control.

She made me feel like I was wasting her time!

Dr Kovolow-St John is wonderful! Initial appointment takes a while to schedule but she is worth the wait. She spends an incredible amount of time with me and I always feel better when I leave her office because of her down to earth manner and compassion. Always finds time to share a laugh! She's not in my insurance network but I refuse to change doctors.

This physician had nerve to tell me to live with my Lupus, since that is my new life. No discussion of ways to help aleviate arthritic pain or fatigue, PLUS she even yelled at me that I needed to learn to live with it. I was able to get a new Rheum. and she immediately helped me understand and CONTROL my Lupus. Now, I have a better quality of life and feel the new physician at least listens to the patients!

Very down-to-earth, caring, knowledgeable. Sits down and truly listens to what you have to say. Unlike most doctors, she smiles and laughs along with you, puts you at ease. She is well worth the initial waiting period to see her. I wish all doctors could be more like her.
