Dr. Karen K Lin, MD

I was very impressed with how thorough Dr. Lin was. Her staff was awesome, her facility was very clean and my wait time was very minimal. I will most definitely refer her to anyone that needs a neurologist.

Her office staff are unhelpful in the extreme and seem unable to perform basic office tasks in a timely manner.

Office staff seems disorganized and inefficient. Doctor unhelpful and disinterested. In the first appointment (for which I waited two months) Dr. Linn discounted my symptoms of memory loss and fatigue without really taking the time to listen and take a full history. After my insisting she finally agreed to order a workup. I got the lab test and MRI promptly, but never heard back from her office for followup. When I called the person who answered was also dismissive; “We would have called you if you had a brain tumor.” I asked for a follow up appointment to review the workup and was again scheduled several weeks out. In that appointment I sat for 45 minutes until they called me back to do some nueropsych testing on a laptop. After I was done I had to find a staff person, as I was left alone in the room for some time. She told me to wait so see the doctor, and I agreed. I quickly went to the restroom and came back two minutes later to be told the doctor went to her next… appointment and I would have to reschedule a third visit to actually speak to her. I was very annoyed, to say the least. Again I was scheduled several weeks out for 5pm appointment, but then called the day before to tell me they actually want me to come at 2pm because they don’t actually stay open that late?! I told them I work and can’t take time off on that short of notice so they reluctantly agreed to see me at the scheduled time. Again I sat and waited until almost 6pm. When the doctor came in she hadn’t reviewed the MRI, but just said I did fine with the nuerospych testing and summarized her findings to “you're just depressed.” I explained to her I am a clinician myself and am familiar with nueropsych instruments, so I didn’t think it would be a very accurate measure of my symptoms. I asked her to review the MRI because it did show some abnormalities, and while she reluctantly did so in this setting, she again minimized the reports’ findings. In preparation for this visit I brought her two medical journal articles about CFS/ME. I had been diagnosed with this already in the past, but she didn’t know this because she didn’t ask. In this setting, she discounted this information, and refused to even look at or take the articles. She stated she felt that information was irrelevant, as my workup appeared fine, and she believes CFS is a subjective diagnosis. She offered to have me see a speech therapist to help me improve my memory. The last thing I need when I feel overwhelmed and exhausted is another appointment. All in all, I wasted a lot of time, and my insurance company and I spent a lot of money to have this provider be absolutely unhelpful. I am now scheduled to got the Stanford CFS/ME Clinic; but again I will be waiting three more months to be seen. I should have skipped seeing Dr. Lin and gone to where professionals are open to expanding their knowledge and providing support to their patients.

Staff is very unorganized, and just plain dumb. She is a bully and tries to confuse me and manipulate me into taking certain medications that have terrible side effects. She is very very unprofessional but I suppose if you are strung out on medications you can't realize this.

Wait times were often 3+ hours. Even when a crisis came up(Wife having 30 seizures a day and losing her memory) Appointments were often put off for weeks or a month or more. Refused to have contact over the phone due to the fact that she can't bill for it even though a prescription change was all that was needed. Ice cold passive aggressive receptionist interrupted us many times when trying to explain things/set up appointments. Even after numerous requests for warning when the doctor would be more than one hour late to her appointments we never received a call and were only told upon arrival. I wouldn't go to her unless you are in a coma.

Horrible bedside manner and terrible follow up

Dr. Lin is an excellent Doctor that I have recommended to many people. She will not quickly throw a pill at your ailment. She will patiently have a conversation with you, asking specific questions to make a proper diagnosis and then treatment plan. Sometimes the "cure" will be simple behavior modification techniques, acupuncture, massage, or nutrition. She is very skilled at both diagnosis and treatment, also she is a master of Chinese and traditional American medicine. If you are having issues go see her. She can help.

The front desk is friendly enough, but the doctors are terrible and there are so many you can't keep track. Every time I visit I get a new doctor. They never seem to be older than 22 years or so. On the last visit, the young doctor ran in and out of the exam room about 10 times, presumably to get instructions on how to treat my problem, which was not an uncommon one. I can't stand this place and I'm getting another clinic ASAP.
