Dr. Karen Elizabeth Mark, MD

I met Dr. marks when my mother was undergoing surgery for a hysterectomy due to a cancer diagnosis. My mother's oncologist told us that Dr. Marks was great and unfortunately that was not true. As far as her medicine I cannot complain, my mother made it through her procedure smoothly, however Dr. Marks care and compassion for her patient's and their family members was sorely lacking. My mother made it clear that she had never been under general anesthesia yet Dr. Marks took very little time the day of the surgery to provide any reassurance to my mother or myself. I understand that surgery schedules are very tightly coordinated and need to be run efficiently, but that should not stop you from thoroughly explaining not only to the patient, but their family member as well what will be happening. Dr. Marks came in took all of a minute to explain what to expect and that she would be giving my mother some sedation in advance. My mother must have been fully prepped because Dr. marks… immediately gave her the injectable sedation and started to move her bed and stated they were going now. I had to basically jump in front of the bed in order to be allowed to take a second to say a few reassuring words to my mother and give her a hug. I have been in the exact same position, at the exact same hospital with my grandfather for previous surgeries and all of the anesthesiologists that we saw were very comforting and took time to explain what would be happening and give us appropriate time frames so as family we could take the time to give each other words of love an reassurance. Unfortunately if you are looking for an anesthesiologist with compassion for patient's and family members, Dr. Marks is not that person.
