Dr. Karen Edith Mehalek, MD

Dr. Mehalek helped me keep baby baking when my cervix was diagnosed short (0.8cm) at 20 weeks. She placed an emergent cerclage and i was able to carry my baby until 39 weeks!! She is filled with knowledge and uses her expertise every time i go in for check up. Answers questions thoroughly and responds to emails quickly. I like her shy, calm demeanor, it makes me feel calm and safe knowing she is a MFM and theres no need to panic. Here we are 10 weeks pregnant and she is my doctor again. Im glad She is seeing me again. She has all my trust.

Great doctor! I had my first pregnancy and I was told I need a cerclage to secure my baby. Dr Mehalek is an excellent doctor. She made my high risk pregnancy very comfortable. With her expertise and knowledge i was able to carry on my healthy baby boy!!! Thank you dr mehalek and i hope you can help me with my next pregnancy

Dr Mehalek was always polite and patient with me. I was pregnant with twins and saw her in addition to my regular obgyn so only saw her once a month. As my husband is a physician I am the worst type of patient because I know too much to not ask a ton of questions and not enough to know when to worry and when to relax! She was very patient with me with regards to this issue, both in person and on email. She answered my questions promptly and in detail when that was needed. I found Dr Mehalek rather shy for a physician with her level of experience. But despite her quiet demeanor I always found that she was consistent with advice and delivered her message with conviction. On the downside, she is often running late because she has many high risk patients and so has many emergencies to attend to. Luckily I had no emergencies, but waited long periods in the exam rooms for scheduled appointments. I delivered my babies by c-section at 38 weeks (I am still convinced it was 37) when Dr… Mehalek was on vacation in Europe. She offered to let me go to 39 weeks and wait until she got back, but I was nervous about doing that as the standard procedure for twins is a scheduled c-section at 38 weeks so I decided to play it safe and go with her partner, Dr Brown, to deliver my babies. That experience is documented in a different review ... But was a great experience (as much as it can be right!?).

I have found Dr Mehalek to be an excellent OB so far. I am now 26 weeks pregnant and continue to see Dr M. She always takes time to answer questions, is honest about the uncertainties surrounding any pregnancy, but reassuring where appropriate. She is calm and measured in her demeanor, and makes me feel like she is in control of the pregnancy. As much as anyone can be anyway.

While I was in the hospital (at 20 weeks of pregnancy) this doctor was notified by a nurse that she could not find my baby's heart beat at around 9 p.m. She did not come to see me until 3 hours later, by that time my baby had died.

Constantly talks down to the patient in a condecending way. Does not explain anything to patient, even when asked. Does not seem to care when patient is having a problem, and tends to just brush it off.
