Dr. Karen Onel, MD

Disappointing. Was seen by her fellow even though we payed cash. Was told my 12 y/o daughter has to stretch. Didn’t even bother doing a physical exam. Seen another pediatric rheumatologist who actually examined my daughter, did blood work and discovered my daughter has an auto immune condition. Not like the rashes, swollen ankles have anything to do with that - (sarcastically speaking as a physician). Told my colleagues who recommended me to Dr Onel how terrible the patient experience was, and what a shame she hid behind a fellow who barely was interested and didn’t even bother doing an exam.

She kept making fun of how weak I was. I cried for two hours afterward.

Although Dr Onel was friendly and wanted to help, she completely disregarded my concerns about Lyme disease. I was confident that Lyme was the issue with my child. She stated that he tested negative (on the garbage LabCorp blood test which is worthless) and she believes a negative is a negative. There is nothing further from the truth when it comes to Lyme. The test that they use is garbage and only picks up a small percentage of Lyme. There are much better tests. But she blew me off, which meant we wasted even more time getting him diagnosed. I found out you can go to Pennsylvania and get blood work without a dr order. I was able to get a better Lyme test kit and took him there. Sure enough, he has an active Lyme infection. Now we have to wait weeks to see a Lyme literate doctor. It is shameful that a rheumatologist can be so uneducated about Lyme. When a patient comes in with aching muscles and joints and they are from a County with the highest Lyme rate in the country,… Lyme should be the first thing you look at. And it’s time to ditch the Lab Corp test. Wasted so much time where we could’ve been getting treatment.

Dr Onell was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We truly felt we had a partner who was dedicated to getting to the bottom of our daughter's symptoms. She was very comprehensive in her review of our case. We only wish all of our physicians were as competent and caring as Dr. Onell

Dr. Onel is awesome. I always get feel like my child is her only patient. I couldn't ask for a better doctor.

Dr. Onel has been taking care of my daughter for the past 7 years. We went from doctor to doctor and noone knew that kids get arthritis. Dr. Onel made the diagnosis and started medicines and it made all the difference in the world. Now my daughter is heading off to college and feeling great. We couldn't be happier with the care we received.

My Daughter has been seeing this fantastic doctor for over 2 years. My teenager has EDS and is in Constant pain. That is until she met Dr Onel. I will never say enough about her and everything she does. Her bed side manners are outstanding! There are some bad reviews. I dont get it though. Never an issue or problems. she even reached me on her vacation directly. Simply Fantastic

She helped my daughter when noone else could or would. She's the best.
