Dr. Karen Smith, MD

I am a new patient, and was a bit apprehensive about the appointment due to negative reviews concerning the office staff. My experience with this office was fantastic from start to finish. Dr. Smith is excellent, thorough, and caring. The staff of years gone by who received negative reviews are not the same people who now work there. I highly recommend this practice and provider.

Dr. Smith is my 5th and final rheumatologist. I have never had such a thorough examination from any other doctor. She helped me more than all the previous ones combined. I really appreciate her very much. She takes her time and really listens. I strongly recommend her.

Office staff were rude and incompetent. Incorrectly planned my appointment and I had to take off for this appointment that I never got to go to. Trying to call for an appointment is a waste of time. Even with a referral she still has to "consider" if she wants you as a patient. I have been waiting a year for a rhuematologist appointment and 5 months for this one. Absolutely angry at this clear show of incompetence. Would never recommend this doctor and the pain of having to go through the rude staff members.

DO NOT SEE dr she will only take your money maybe she is a quack. During first visit she was okay after I mentioned how rude her staff was she turned on me. She must have taken complain personal and has not been willing to help me ever since. She is dismissive and unprofessional.

Tried to change my daughter's appointment to a later time, and then asked if they accepted AmBetter. Spoke to CLAUDIA who was VERY RUDE, AND UNFEELING- both times. We offered to pay out of pocket, as we had done one other time before, and she kept mentioning that they would get in trouble going through AmBetter. She was so rude and unwilling to help that it felt like she took pride in denying services to my daughter who experiences a lot of pain. I checked here on your website and it clearly says she accepts AmBetter. We called AmBetter, and they told us that Dr. Smith does accept It. CLAUDIA refused to leave a message for us to talk to the doctor claiming she had spoken to her and she had agreed and referred us to someone else. Interesting that info. was not given to me earlier. We all loved going to see Dr. Smith, and my daughter trusts her. But, if patients or parents are forbidden to speak to her, then THIS IS A REFLECTION ON DR. SMITH for allowing that type of behavior. Everytime… we would go to an appointment, Claudia and the office staff were rude. We'd hold back because we liked the doctor. Wished we had let the doctor know. DON'T BOTHER COMING HERE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE WHERE PATIENTS AND PARENTS CAN BE TREATED WITH RESPECT. So disappointed.

Dr. Karen Smith is fulfilling the purpose of her life, by treating and caring for patients that are extremely sick and most in health care don’t have any clue about autoimmune diseases so her patients appreciate her compassion, her incomparable knowledge. In my case even though very complicated with multiple autoimmune diseases on board where other doctors were confused and scared without hiding their anxiety about having me on their watch for any given time, Dr Smith has been correct every second of the way, diagnosing, treating and not giving up ( is the best part) it is very disheartening to a patient if any healthcare worker gives up on you and just shrug their shoulders and say yea but you know with what you have we don’t have many choices unfortunately. She is a guardian angel that God send for me any many others in the same boat. I thank God for her

Stay away from this Doctor, had an appointment, filled out all the paper work and gave the receptionist my ID, lab work and medical card. Receptionist called me up, Ms. ______ your visit will be $175.00, I said no I have insurance. She said well you haven't met your deductible, I explained to her I have no deductible when having a doctors office visit. I have a $40.00 copay and my visit is paid at 100 % with my insurance. We went back and forth until she said that she would let me speak to the Dr. The Dr came and she said the same thing you haven't met your deductible. I explained to her that don't have a deductible, asked her if I pay you this $175.00 and when you receive the EOB - Explanation of Benefits and it states that I was only to pay you $40.00 are you going to reimburse me and she said no. she was getting mad and said I don't want to see you and you can leave. She is double dipping, billing the insurance and take patient money. I called my insurance company and they… also called Dr. Karen Smiths office and they asked them why I was to pay the $175.00 they kept stating that I haven't met my deductible again, my insurance company explained that I only have a $40.00 copay and they pay for my office visit at 100%. They hung up the phone. My insurance company is investigating.

Dr. Smith is amazing!! For more than 11 months, I’ve gone to several doctors and had several tests done on me. My life flipped upside down with all the symptoms my body was going through. I was able to see Dr. Smith and immediately she knew a treatment which would give me back my life. She’s amazing. I thank the Lord for her. She’s a blessing.

Dr Karen Smith is outstanding, I got very ill and most doctors don’t know much about autoimmune diseases and by some luck my pcp referred me to Dr Smith, I honestly believe I would have died if she did not intervene.Dr Smith is compassionate kind and knows exactly what she is doing. I was in tremendous shock as all are to realize that you are very sick, she was able to tell me things that I am experiencing and ask me about thinks I forgot to tell her because I am so sick and in the beginning didn’t realize all the many different things I was experiencing was because of one problem my immune system. Other doctors at times made me feel embarrassed that I had so many things wrong with me that i learned over the years just to mention the one thing that is bothering me the most. Her treatment has been the only thing that I felt makes a difference and gave me hope that I will be ok, never perfect but I will be ok, and be able to spend many more years with my family She is an angel God… send to help me and all my poor autoimmune disease friends and I thank God for her and what she does for those with autoimmune diseases, to all the other folks out there remember autoimmune diseases is distinctly identifiable by labs, if you don’t have autoimmune markers in your labs she can’t help you or she could but she is an autoimmune specialist I know they say rheumatologist which she definitely is and it is just connected to the most famous autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis but she is treats all autoimmune diseases. Since I have seen some reviews that she wouldn’t see some patients the only way that would happen is if you didn’t have the autoimmune markers in your labs She is phenomenal
