Dr. Karen J Menzer Ullian, MD

Dr. Ullian has taking care of me and several family members. She is always kind, compassionate and spot on in her diagnosis and treatment. I would highly recommend her

Watch the billing , they tell you one price and then more than triple the charge. Also blame receptionist for not communicating with them !!

First of all, Dr. Ullian has absolutely no personality and speaks to you as if you are stupid. When you ask a question you get a half answer. I still don't really know what is wrong with my eye and will be getting a second opinion. Her receptionist fits right in too, as she is rude and acts like you're bothering her.

First off, I have to say, Dr. Ullian cracks me up. Seriously. She has a very dry sense of humor (which a lot of people probably won't "get") and will ask a question that she already knows the answer to, I think as an ice-breaker. She does seem to have a million things running through her mind, so comes across a little distracted sometimes. But, she's a little fireball of movement! : ) As for care, she is very thorough in examinations and caught a condition that another opthamologist missed the year before. (Didn't go back to that one because of herding cattle office setting.) Diagnosis was made, treatment suggested and performed, prescription written, I'm now doing GREAT!

I would like to start off by saying I am def not the type person who writes reviews, esp bad ones. But this is one experience I want to share. I was experiencing severe, severe pain in one if my eyes. I tried dealing with it myself, thinking I left my contact lens in too long.  I have a very bad habit of sleeping with my lenses in. Well two/three days in pure pain and couldnt bare it anymore. I did some researching online before, going to an eye doctor. I was almost 120% sure I had a cornea ulcer. Being the fact I was in SO much pain. All the symptoms matches up. Well okay, the pain is bad really bad,  i literally cant do much. I cant go outside, the light is too bad, i cant use the phone bc even the screen light is too bright. I was in a hurry to see a doctor, esp after reading about an ulcer in the eye online, can be scary. DR ULLIAN was the closest eye doctor to my house, she was the CHEAPEST, and I had actually been there before when a male eye doctor was in practice there...… BEFORE DR. ULLIAN PRACTICED THERE. So when I called to make an appointment, they didnt or couldnt find me in their computer system... Okay not a problem or big deal... ... Well I gave them my information and worked me in asap. I was happy bc they could work me in so fast and not having insurance, $75 for a visit, I thought was great. So I go to the appointment and I didnt have to wait. As soon as I met her, she was not friendly. She acted more like my teacher I had in middle school. Im in my mid twenties, and felt as though she was talking down to me. During her exam, when she was asking me to read the letters on the wall, when I responded ALMOST EVERYTIME, SHE INTERRUPTED ME!! SERIOUSLY, SHE WAS NOT GIVING ME ANYTIME TO ANSWER. WHEN SHE WENT TO PUT THE EYE DYE STICK IN MY EYE SHE DID NOT GET IT CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME AND HAD TO REDO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. THAT WAS EXTREMELY PAINFUL. SHE BASICALLY SAID THAT I WAS CORRECT ABOUT HAVING AN ULCER, BUT THEN DIDNT REALLY EXPLAIN ANYTHING TO ME. SHE KEPT REPEATING , "Help me, Help you!" Over and over again. She asked me if I wanted some meds to help with pain, then she said nevermind she didnt want to give those to me bc I might be knocked out by it that i might not remember to put the needed eye drops in. But then tells me the eye drops are to only be taken while im a wake. Whatever. This lady is flip flopping on me. She asks me if i want new glasses bc the ones I have are older and my vision has got worse. She never wrote anything for me to get new glasses. I have had TWO HOME BIRTHS with no pain medience... so I will deal with the pain... I cant see bc something is on my eye affecting my vision anyways. So since I cant see right now, why worry abouts frames... I tried being positive in my head... But this lady, Dr. ULLIAN KEPT BRING ME DOWN. SHE WAS PAID $75 FOR THE VISIT THAT DAY BY CHECK. BUT DURING THE VISIT AND EXAM SHE TOLD ME "I HAD TO COME TO HER EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR THE COUPLE OF WEEKS. THATS HOW SERIOUS AN ULCER IS. YOU MIGHT LOOSE YOUR EYE," SHE SAID. I ASKED, "HOW MUCH ARE YOU GOING TO ASK FOR, FOR EACH VISIT FOR EVERYDAY FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS??! " "$40 A DAY",  SHE SAID. $40 A DAY FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS???!!! WHAT??!!! I SAID IN MY HEAD... (TWO SEPERATE MIDWIVES DID TWO SEPERATE TRADES FOR HELPING ASSIST IN BOTH MY BIRTHS. I DID NOT HAVE INSURANCE AND WE DID A TRADE FOR BOTH OCCASTIONS.) I TOLD HER I WAS FINANICALLY TRYING TO SURVIVE AND DID NOT HAVE ALOT TO WORK WITH. I HAVE A TON OF VALUE STUFF AND MY HUSBAND HAS LOTS OF SKILLS TO HELP MAKE PAYMENTS. SHE SAID. NO. "OKAY. I UNDERSTAND," I SAID. THATS WHY I BROUGHT UP THE TRADING IDEA. I BROKE DOWN..NO WAY I CAN AFFORD $40 A DAY FOR I DONT NO HOW LONG I SAID. SHE SAID SHE COULD MAYBE BILL ME BUT I HAVE TO PAY HER BACK. WHATEVER, IN TEARS THINKING IM GOING TO LOOSE MY EYE BC I CANT AFFORD TO KEEP COMING. ANYWAYS I TRIED TO PICK MY HEAD UP AND ONCE AGAIN SHE BROUGHT SHE DOWN EVEN LOWER. BEFORE I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE SHE ASKED IF I HAD ANY QUESTIONS AND OF COURSE I HAD LOTS BEING THE FACT NOTHING WAS REALLY EXPLAINED TO ME... I BEGAN ASKING QUESTIONS.. SHE WAS IMPATIENT AND DID NOT ANSWER HARDLY ANYTHING. SHE KEPT RUSHING ME, AND KEPT ASKING ME, "OKAY ANY MORE QUESTIONS" SHE ASKED OVER AND OVER. I TRIED TO REMEMBER ALL OF THE QUESTIONS I HAD FOR HER BUT IT WAS HARD WITH HER BC SHE KEPT ASKING ME IF I HAD ANY MORE QUESTIONS FOR HER. THEN DURING MY LAST QUESTION, WHICH I CANT REMEMBER QUITE AT THE MOMENT WHAT IT WAS, BUT SHE ANSWERED WITH, " HAVE YOU EVER HAD A HERPES OUTBREAK ON YOUR MOUTH/ LIP?" I gave her a weird look I guess and she said, " you know like a cold sore" and pointed to her mouth...like she was a sex Ed teacher. I was soooooo UPSET!!! "I have never had an std before, NEVER", I said. She said "not a sexually transmitted disease but one on your mouth maybe you touched it and got it in your eye." Ive never had a cold sore. Ever. I was just in shock. She asked," any more questions?" I started crying again. "...So now i have herpes in my eye?" i asked. "No not if you have never had a cold sore." She said. She said, "Any more questions?" ...I said,..."I guess not..." She said," see you tomorrow." Despite not wanting to go back, and family and friends suggesting to get a second doctor to look at it...i went back to her. I figured okay i was right about having an ulcer and she gave me treatment so as long as its getting better, whatever. Ill go maybe every other other day or something. So i waited two days to go back to her and kept putting drops back in my eyes. It was looking hopefull. After waiting two days after my first visit to her, I was feeling better than the day I had seen her last. So i figured maybe i could quit coming to see her. I brought the $40 dollars, she took me right in to the exam room. I waited 30

Not a people person. Diagnosis was more like a guess. Had to see another physician, who diagnosed & treated me correctly.
