Dr. Karen Joanne Walter, MD

Dr. Walter is a native of Iowa - go Hawkeyes. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa. She earned her medical degree at UCLA School of Medicine. She completed her pediatric internship and residency at Ohio State University & Columbus Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Following her residency, Dr. Walter joined MAPA in July 1999. In July 2006, we bid Dr. Walter farewell. She returned to her home state of Iowa to be closer to her extended family. We've all learned that plans do not always work out as we expect them to. Fortunately for us, Dr. Walter felt the pull to return to Western North Carolina. She rejoined MAPA in January 2007. She now lives in Fairview with her husband, Mark, and their son and daughter. When Dr. Walter is not practicing pediatrics, you might find her at a NASCAR race or at least taking in the excitement of a televised race. She might also be on a bike hike, an outdoor hike, working out at the YMCA, or volunteering at Fairview Elementary School for her …kids.
