Dr. Karen E Weitzel, DDS

Dr. Weitzel graduated from Stanford University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 1980. She practiced for several years in the San Jose area before starting her own practice in Redwood City in 1984. Then in 2003, she moved to a newer office where she currently practices. The office incorporates the newest technology with digital radiography, panoramic radiography, computerized appointment scheduling and state-of-the-art sterilization equipment. 
Dr Weitzel’s team includes three hygienists working a total of 5 days a week, a friendly, welcoming front desk reception staff, and a warm and efficient chairside assistant who has been with her over 25 years. As a general dentist, her aim is to treat the entire family, with a concentration on prevention, routine recall hygiene services and restorative, cosmetic treatments. The goal of the entire team is to make your experience as …stress- free, comfortable and enjoyable as possible. 
She is a member of the California Dental Association and American Dental Association.
Meet Our Staff
Etta Munk, Receptionist. Etta has worked with Dr Weitzel for over 9 years. She is the control center of the practice, managing the appointment schedule, phone inquiries, and the flow of the entire office. She is the bright and welcoming voice you will hear when you call for an appointment. She has worked in many industries such as catering and high tech, utilizing the same organizational skills and efficiency that she demonstrates in our office.
Cookie Artale, Treatment Coordinator and Insurance Manager. After retiring from administration at Kaiser Hospital, Cookie went on to manage dental offices and patient insurance issues beginning with Dr. Weitzel in her previous location in 2001. She understands the complexities of dental insurance and will help you make the most of your plan. She carefully evaluates your benefits and flex plans and makes financial arrangements where necessary.
Deirdre Hartmann, Chairside Dental Assistant. Deirdre has worked in the dental field for over 35 years and has been assisting Dr. Weitzel for 27 years. Her efficiency and organization make her the ideal chairside manager and her warm and humorous personality keep you feeling relaxed and happy to be in our dental office.
Curryn Li, Registered Dental Hygienist. Curryn earned a Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene at UCSF School of Dentistry in 2003.   She is gentle and thorough in her approach to gingival health and stresses preventive techniques which help her patients not only maintain but improve their gum condition. She is knowledgeable in all phases of hygiene practice including placement of dental sealants, use of localized medications in the gum pockets, and deep cleaning or scaling. She works with Dr. Weitzel three days a week and is a key person in managing her hygiene recall practice.
Meg Moore, Registered Dental Hygienist. After graduating from Western Washington University with a degree in Fine Arts, Meg decided to take a different direction and earned an Associate in Science, Dental Hygiene degree from Foothill College in 2008, after also completing a license in Dental assisting in 2006.  She concentrates on educating her patients in all types of oral hygiene techniques and gets great results from her careful and thorough treatment. She is able to provide all phases of preventive services with Curryn on Wednesdays in Dr. Weitzel’s office, allowing family members to have simultaneous dental hygiene appointments with greater efficiency.
Holly Hermansen, Registered Dental Hygienist. Holly also graduated from UCSF School of Dentistry in Dental Hygiene and has worked with Dr. Weitzel for 12 years. She is appreciated by her patients for her gentle touch and expert knowledge of all hygiene products, such as electric toothbrushes and flossing aids. Holly’s gentle manner works well with children as well as pleasing those patients who are uneasy with dental care. Holly works on Fridays with Dr. Weitzel.
