Dr. Karin Spears, MD

For some reason, this physician was listed on my chart, although I have not seen her at any point during the nine years I’ve been a patient at the clinic. I have consistently been followed by her NP, Virginia, who has been excellent. I had my annual mammogram approximately 40 days ago, and the results were reported as normal in my chart. However, I later received a message indicating that, while the mammogram was normal, mild vascular calcifications were noted and a clinical cardiovascular risk assessment was recommended. My understanding is that this type of finding is increasingly being reported by radiologists and is distinct from breast calcifications. Given my overall health profile—including a long history of endurance exercise, normal blood pressure, excellent A1C, and otherwise favorable labs—I reached out to provide additional context. The response I received suggested that, without my healthy lifestyle, I might have already experienced a cardiovascular event. I found this… comment unnecessarily alarming and not reflective of my overall risk profile, particularly given the absence of an established patient-provider relationship. I am sharing this feedback because communication of incidental findings requires careful context and tone. Statements of this nature can create undue anxiety for patients, and I hope this can be addressed to help ensure a more balanced and patient-centered approach in the future. After discussing this with my primary care physician, I was reassured that this finding is not clinically concerning in my case.

I had this doctor in early 2000, very memorable. She was the rudest doctor I had ever had, including till now in 2025. Once I had a UTI and most pharmacies were closed at the time I got a hold of her. I do remember her telling me "looks like you're hosed." In the appointments, she did make me feel "dirty", when there was no need for that. I can't believe she's still able to practice with the way she treats some women. Maybe every situation is different. There are better doctors out there if you have a choice though.

I was thrilled to be asked to accompany my pregnant daughter to her doctor’s appointment and to see the ultrasound of my grandson. The birth of a new child is filled with love and hope for the future. When I left the appointment with Dr. Spears I was crying and incredibly sad. Why? Dr. Spears is so rude and insulting. During the appointment she fat shamed my daughter until she was in shock. When I saw how devastated she was, I felt just as bad or worse. It is very hard to understand how a doctor that assists in the miracle of birth can be so cruel and negative and such a bully. Dr. Spears might be better suited as a weight-loss consultant – she could shame or scare her clients into losing weight. Fortunately, my daughter was able to get a new doctor who supported a natural birth and the baby was born naturally and perfectly. Both mother and baby are now doing fine.

She was excellent! Took care of my issue quickly and love her no nonsense approach. Took the time to explain everything and answered all my questions prior to my procedure. Will continue to see her and will recommend.

Getting a bit rusty in her knowledge.

Although Dr. Spears may be intelligent and have lots of experience with different issues, she was so horrible as my doctor for my first pregnancy. I used to cry leaving my appointments during my 1st trimester and then cry and be nervous to attend appointments during part of my 2nd trimester. She fat shamed me and made me feel horrible and nervous. Around the 18 week appointment, after she fat shamed me in front of my husband for the final time, I switched to a different doc in the practice. (I’d like to clarify that although I was overweight, I was completely medically healthy. Just because you weigh over 200 does not mean you have health issues.) I hated Spears so much that I told my husband and the hospital that if I went into labor while she was on call, I’d refuse her in the delivery room. I would take a random doc over her any day. She ruined the first half of my pregnancy, when I should have been happy and glowing with our first child. She has the worst bedside manner of any… doctor I’ve ever experienced in my life.

Dr. Spears was my doctor through both of my pregnancies. While she didn't end up delivering either one (bad timings), my experience with her is always great when I visit her in her office. She can run a little behind sometimes, but I've never waited more than 15-20 minutes, and it was always for a very good reason. She is personable and caring, but also really direct and to the point. Will share with you pros and cons on things and let you decide, and is supportive of your decisions. I wanted to schedule an induction at 39 weeks and she was supportive (I had my reasons) but I ended up going into labor the day before. I've recommended her to friends and know people who drive across town just to see her. She is the best!

She is careless and does not care about you or your past history. If you need someone who will listen to you and care for you as a person and as a patient, please find someone else. She will treat you as just one of her several patients and couldn't care less if you have a complicated pregnancy and its outcome. Having 20 + years of experience is great but it turned out to be of no use for us. This comes from personal experience. I will never ever recommend anyone to go to her. I would give 0 out of 5 stars if I could.

Anyone else I have gone to has been seriously lacking compared to her. She is competent, confident, and clear.

The doctor overall is pretty good but her staff including her nurse are very unfriendly and rude. After I am done with this pregnancy I will never return and will never recommend due to the way I have been treated by the doctors nurse Lisa and her staff. I got better care from the doctor's and nurse's at Planned Parenthood.
