Dr. Karl E Lugus

You will not find a better dentist for your children. Dr. Lugus has been my son’s provider since his first checkup at 1 year old, 11 years ago and since our daughter was 9. Our daughter is 20 now and dreads turning 21 this year as she only trusts Dr. Lugus for her dental care yet she will have to transfer to another dentist at that time. We actually moved an hour away a few months ago but will continue making the drive to Dr. Lugus for our sons checkups until he too turns 21.

Dr. Karl Lugus is a good dentist but the front office staff is terrible. Is not really helpful at all.

I was shocked after reading the critical reviews on Dr. Lugus. I do not want potential patients to be swayed by the uninformed comments made by others. So, as a thankful mother, I feel compelled to set some things straight. Firstly, the papoose board mentioned is indeed a constraint device, but is only used while the child is under sedation. The reason Dr. Lugus uses conscious sedation techniques is because they are much, much safer than full sedation. Many dentists will use full sedation because it is much easier for THEM, but by putting your child fully under they are placing them at much higher, potentially life threatening, risks. To the comment Marie made about her child being traumatized at age 3, I would like to point out that it's a scientific fact that children don't form memories until age 4, and even then it is rare. There are definitely some discrepancies in her story. My daughter is on the spectrum and before we found Dr. Lugus and his staff, I wondered if dental care… was even an option. We had been to numerous dentists and Dr. Lugus was the first to be able to actually get any work done on my daughter. He and his staff were extremely caring, patient, tender, and willing to go to any lengths to see that my daughter received treatment. First and foremost, it seemed that Dr. Lugus' main concern was that my daughter be healthy...and that meant the world to me. If you are looking for a highly skilled, ethical, dentist with a caring and knowledgeable staff- then go to Dr. Lugus.

Dr. Lugus was the first dentist my son saw at the young age of three. I was informed that parents were not permitted in the back area. The reason given was because children do better when parents are not present. My son needed dental work done, and they strapped him down on a "papoose board" to do the dental work. He was terrified and traumatized. He is now 22 years old and has anxiety about the dentist and will not go unless he absolutely has to. Unless Dr. Lugus' practices have changed, I cannot recommend him.
