Dr. Karlie Rae Satin

I am NOT a patient of this doctor. However, my niece was. Her experience is not something I would wish on my worst enemy. A few weeks ago, she had all 4 of her wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Satin at her Plymouth, MI office (Michigan Oral Surgeons). This was her first-ever surgery, so naturally, she was nervous about having anesthesia. Her anxiety became so severe that she was blacking out to the point of fainting. Her symptoms were mimicking a stroke (thankfully, it was NOT.) Dr. Satin would not prescribe her anything to alleviate her anxiety, which is absolutely ridiculous, not to mention negligent. My niece had to suffer for a week because Dr. Satin did not take her anxiety seriously. Thankfully, my niece’s PCP prescribed her something to calm her down with the full knowledge that she was going to be having surgery with anesthesia. (I would like to add that I have personally had many surgeries and have taken the same medication she was prescribed both the night before and the morning… of, and not a single surgeon has had an issue with it, from oral surgeons to surgeons at Memorial Sloan-Kettering.) Now, on to the worst part (as if everything I’ve already mentioned wasn’t bad enough). MY NIECE WAS AWARE THE ENTIRE TIME DURING SURGERY. She is a redhead, so she requires more anesthesia than most people. But she basically received NONE because the IV was inserted improperly. The dr. didn't even wear gloves when attempting to insert the IV. Dr. Satin didn’t care about my niece’s well-being. She was angry that my niece had the audacity to stand up for herself and seek a second opinion when Dr. Satin refused to prescribe anything to treat my niece's severe anxiety. The MI medical board has been notified and has opened an investigation into this incompetent doctor. Do yourself a HUGE favor and seek treatment elsewhere.
