Dr. Kate Lewis Kennedy, MD

I watched and read the reviews before going in for my appt. I chose to dismiss them. I had the best experience with my colonoscopy than I have ever in the past. I don’t have anything to complain about from my past experiences, however I was wondering what to expect! Honestly I found Dr Kennedy to be very kind, caring. Very professional and actual a delight! I had no medication and if I weren’t so intrigued with watching the procedure live on the screen, I may have just gone to sleep. The nurses and Dr Nick to assist were exemplary! I walked out 45 minutes after I arrived at MMC. THANK YOU Dr Kennedy, you are defiantly a 5 star physician!

I would do zero stars if I could. Dr. Kennedy is a condescending medical Gaslighter. She attributes your problems to anxiety. She says sometimes people just have pain ..For the first time in my adult life I brought my husband in with me for my second appointment …just for some validation, He couldn’t believe it either . She has zero medical curiosity about getting to the root cause of your problem. She has terrible bedside manner and is rude and she misread an important diagnostic report and gave me completely wrong information . Find another gastroenterologist..

I just had an endoscopy a couple days ago. The nurse was great. Very personable, kind and had a great bedside manner. Dr. Kennedy on the other hand, not so much. I had started a new medication in January. By mid February I was getting really sick with about every GI symptom you could possibly have. I knew the medication was known for GI side effects but not to the extent that I was experiencing them at. When the symptoms stuck around for another month and a half (even after stopping the medication) my PCP decided it was best to at least get checked out to make sure nothing else was wrong. When Dr. Kennedy came in before my procedure, she was maybe there for 3 minutes. She asked me why I was there.. I explained to her everything and she acted like she could care less. She’s like it’s probably just side effects from your medication and that me being there was a waste of her time. After the procedure, she came in to sign an out of work paper and just told me everything was normal. I asked… about what could be causing my constant dry heaves and she’s like “it’s just from your medication. You need to follow up with your doctor” and she left. The tone in her voice was very condescending and I had never felt so disrespected by a provider than I did right then. At that point I couldn’t wait to leave. I didn’t do any research on the doctor before because I wasn’t sure who I was going to be seeing but now looking at all the reviews after the fact, I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. Portland Gastro is great but stay away from Dr. Kennedy. She doesn’t care about you or your feelings. She’s just there for a paycheck.

I have followed with Dr Kennedy for many years and always find her responsive to my needs. She is straight and to the point but I prefer that.

I had had a colonoscopy done by Dr Kennedy previously and found her to be fairly aloof and just going through the motions with pre and post visit which was very minimal. Ok, no problem. I don’t need to be babied so when I had another GI issue arise , I was scheduled with her. Ok. So, once again it felt like she just going through the motions checking boxes. Cold. No eye contact. When it came time for telecomference for results she had the wrong results. Being in medical profession myself I was very understanding and she did apologize several times and said she’d get back with me in a few days. A couple weeks later we had the follow up. I had many questions and concerns which seemed to irritate her. She told me I had a history diagnosis of depression and anxiety and that my symptoms were related to that and to see my GP. She asked me what am I afraid of? I was speechless. She then told me I read to much. We concluded with a otc rx. And a f/u teleconference for 3 months. … Next thing I know I get a business card of another Dr in the mail with no explanation. How totally unprofessional is this. No note, no explanation - just a card. Well after tat I checked Dr Kennedy’s reviews which I was not surprised at such negative reviews similar to my own experience. So then I checked the Dr I have been turned over to and I see wonderful reviews for him. A blessing I. Disguise however, Dr. Kennedy appears to have some issues with patient /Dr communication that really need to be addressed. I never want to see her again.

wow is all i have to say, have a chronic problem, had an EGD with Dr. Kate Kennedy. No appointment before hand just straight up scheduled an EGD. Alright that's fine i know my problem and its probably best anyways right? nope, Procedure was fine nursing staff was great, but I have never in my life had a doctor with such a horrible personality and horrible bedside manner. She is rude, condescending and acted like i was wasting her time. Comes into the room asking few questions about why we were doing this and acted like she didn't believe i had this issue. I've been seen by top docs at mass general who beg to differ. I only came here because i got sick of driving two hours in traffic to mass general to see my normal GI. Now i will because its worth the two hour drive to get a doctor that knows what they are dealing with. I do NOT recommend Dr Kate Kennedy to anyone. Its actually sad because i was warned she is not a good person before hand by a few people and gave her the benefit of the… doubt and thought people were being ridiculous so i kept the appointment. No shes a straight up miserable doctor/person who needs to work no where near patients that need guidance on their issue.

My doctor referred me for a colonoscopy. Because I am under 50, the process took several months to schedule — they said they needed to get preapprovals, etc. After all that time, I finally find myself prepped, in the hospital bed, IV in, waiting for the procedure. The admitting nurse took me through everything, the front desk was very thorough. Then the doctor comes in and says, “Did you call your insurance company to make sure they would pay for this, because you’re under 50...” Apparently she thought that was a good time to have the conversation. I’ve never been so angry in such a vulnerable moment in my life. And then what do I do, cancel the procedure so I can go make some phone calls? Repeat the entire prep another day? Go forward with a procedure with a doctor who’ve I’ve now just gotten very angry with for springing this on me? I did everything I was told to do in advance of the procedure. Never was there any mention made of me needing to make any calls to insurance.… Infuriating! Go anywhere else. I made my displeasure known. Was there an apology? No. Dr. Kennedy should find another job.

I was looking for a new gastroenterologist in the Portland, Maine area and was referred to the Portland Gastroenterology Center. The facility is beautiful, the check in and nurses were friendly and then Dr. Kennedy came in. I brought my previous records that she REFUSED to even acknowledge. She was extremely rude, she talked over me, and argued with me about my symptoms. I have never received such horrible bed side behavior before.
