DO NOT EVER CONSULT WITH DR. CARTER. I had a lumpectomy performed by Dr Carter about 10 years ago.  I'm amazed she's still being allowed to practice.  The incision did not heal as several months went by.  I returned weekly where her nurse assistant checked the incision site.  The conclusion was that my breast was too large for the incision to heal.  Dr. Carter's solution was to send me to a plastic surgeon for breast reduction surgery.  I went to see him where I was told...Everybody's doing having breast reduction. It was the last thing I wanted to do.      After 6 month with an oozing wound and Dr Carter urging breast reduction surgery, I decided to go to the Harrington Hospital Wound Care Center in Charlton where a culture was FINALLY done.        When I got the results of the culture, the doctor said, How long have you had MRSA?  I was SHOCKED!! All that time Dr Carter's office had never considered culturing the wound.  I took medication and was cleared of MRSA and all infection,… but still the wound wouldn't heal.  But, at least the MRSA was no longer a problem.      This is now 7 months later.  I went to the UMASS-Medical  Wound Care Center in Worcester where I saw an amazing nurse practitioner with an amazing name, Cheryl Sherrell. After another culture which was negative for all infection, she told me to wash with an antibiotic soap and to use an antibiotic ointment  containing silver.  Within a few days the wound started to heal, and within a week it was closed and nearly healed.  Ms. Sherrell saw  me weekly and continued culturing to confirm that MRSA was no longer present. Cheryl Sherrell is now Dr Sherrell, a practicing plastic surgeon    I spent 6 months seeing Dr. Carter who NEVER CONSIDERED culturing the wound or sending me to Brigham and Women's Wound Clinic.  I know that Dr. Carter and the plastic surgeon had actually done unnecessary breast reduction on some of her other large-breasted patients.    After all this, I called the Patient Liaison Office at B&W.  The result?  A call from Dr. Carter who didn't apologize, but said the plastic surgery would have been a reasonable measure.  DR. ELIZABETH CARTER SHOULD NOT BE PRACTICING MEDICINE.

The worst medical care I have ever received. Terrible infection following surgery requiring re-excision. Dr Carter and her staff were unresponsive to any problems encountered. The worst health care provider in the City.

What a wonderful and caring doctor! I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction and Dr. Carter was there every step of the way to answer any questions and offer support. Excellent surgeon.
