Dr. Katharine Moss Hinchcliff

Dr. Katharine Hinchcliff (current chief resident) assisted my surgeon, Dr. Michael Campbell, with my thyroidectomy a few years ago. She did not introduce herself pre or post op but I did speak with her on the phone after my surgery. (Dr. Campbell apparently did not find it necessary to personally check on his patient post-op and left this task to his resident). Dr. Hinchcliff was fairly cold and condescending on the phone and generally lacked a skill set when communicating with a cancer patient. I marvel that Dr. Hinchcliff is now training in plastic surgery given the unfortunate cosmetic outcome of my surgery. There's not a day that goes by that I don't regret my surgery experience here at UC Davis with Dr. Hinchcliff (and Dr. Campbell). The scar is very noticeable and it negatively effects my self-esteem. I could have and should have chosen better and more skilled surgeons. The transoral and davinci hidden-scar thryoidectomy methods were never discussed with me as an option in… my my pre-op appointments. Perhaps I would not have been a good candidate but I would have at least appreciated a discussion with my medical team about the possibility of a more favorable cosmetic outcome. My experience has been that UC Davis is neither cutting-edge nor comprehensive.
