The Doctor With No Heart — Refused to Speak During My Child’s ER Visit My son was Dr. Kate Meddles’s patient for two years. The day after a scheduled check-in visit — for which we paid the practice a substantial fee — he suffered a seizure, hit his head, and was taken to the ER with a hematoma. I called Dr. Meddles from the ER seeking guidance. Her receptionist told me, “She does not call patients. Use the portal or make an appointment.” Dr. Meddles (through the portal) later suggested another medication increase in the portal without reviewing the ER notes or speaking with me. She sternly reminded me "There are two ways you can get a hold of me. The portal or make and appointment." I felt dehumanized and like a number. I immediately switched neurologists. I have never felt less human or more like a number. I switched neurologists immediately. If you value compassion as much as competence, look elsewhere.
