Dr. Kathleen King Casey, MD

As a physician, I must say Dr. Casey may know something about Infectious Disease but, she is a horror to work with due to her condescending attitude with patients and staff. She has always played politics within medical organizations and is an irascible and narcissistic element in any organization. There are far more compassionate and knowledgable physicians in the central New Jersey area .

I recommend a lot of friends here. Dr. Casey was the only doctor who did NOT dismiss my complaints. I was hospitalized with mystery symptoms. At first, I’ll admit I was very off put by her bedside manner. But I also understand when you are seeing this so much and living in a self diagnosing era, you can’t get too emotionally invested. Every other test was coming back slightly off so she asked I follow up with her. I took her seriously and made sure to follow up. She ran test after test after test and when I was complaining that I felt pressure in my chest she was confident a CT would uncover my ultimate problem. After finding out I had a thymoma, even at my young age, every hospital stay she came to see me, make sure I was okay. My eyes were crossing (or felt like it.. common symptom) and she even sent her partner in her place one time when she couldn’t make it. I was hospitalized about 5 times in four months due to mystery symptoms that did not add up. When the surgeon would not… remove the gland, she even recommended I seek a second opinion. That may have saved my life. Going to cancer treatment center and learning about this, and seeing how opposite their research and opinions are from specialists here in NJ. I had two masses on the gland, that they said more often than not, go from benign precancer to being cancer. So yes, she DOES care. Oncologist, surgeons, ENTs all dismissed me saying they thought I was fine, she did not.

I would like to preface this by saying that I have never written a review of a doctor before but I feel compelled to do so so that nobody has to go through what I went through with Dr. Casey. As someone who has been chronically ill for three years and has had to give up my dream job and move back home with my parents, I was shocked at the lack of sympathy this doctor showed me. She told me, “you’re not sick; you’re just bored. Get a hobby and get a job and stop living with your mom” and “I can tell you’re not as sick as you say because you walked in here on your own and have animated facial expressions when you talk to me”. I didn’t realize facial expressions were diagnostic criteria. She clearly has no understanding of chronic illness and on top of my issues I came to see her about, I have multiple diagnosed and well-documented heart conditions (I brought those records) so she had no basis to declare that I wasn’t sick at all multiple times. She told me there’s no way I could have an… infectious disease and I left her office in tears. She could have given that opinion in a nicer, less condescending way. I’ve seen many doctors in my life and have never had such a negative experience. Two weeks after I saw her, I found a competent doctor and tested positive for an active Bartonella infection TWICE (by PCR and IFA) and am now on my way to recovery.

Would never trust this person with a family member.

I was glad to see that I am not the only one that had a bad experience with dr. Casey. She is incredibly condescending. Made a possible critical mistake with my meds and you have a better chance of speaking to the President than talking to her directly. Left a message with a nurse days ago because she does not have voicemail, still waiting for a call back.

Dr. Casey is the worst doctor that I have ever visited. I had Lyme disease and told her that my head was shaking. She abruptly instructed me to "forget that I ever had Lyme disease" because I had taken Doxycycline. Almost a year passed when I was properly treated by a neurologist with a severe head tremor due to Lyme disease in my central nervous system. I was given 8 months of Rocephin and am now negative for the horrific disease. Dr. Casey needs to retire. She is condescending and a terrible doctor!!

I visited Dr Casey for Lyme Disease as suggested by my primary care MD. She spoke to me very condescendingly and gave me abvsolutely the wrong info. I have since seen another infectious disease doctor and a neurologist who is the head of neurology at a well respected hospital. They agree with me that she has no bedside manner and is very condescending. Worst of all, the neurologist, an expert in Lyme Disease said that there is absolutely no reason why she gave the advice that she did. According to him, she completely misread my blood test results and cost me an additional year of illness and stress. I think that she should lose her license!Even her colleagues dislike Dr. Casey. She is a legend in her own mind!

Dr. Casey spoke to me like I was an idiot instead of a patient suffering with Lyme Disease who desperately needed her guidance. She told me to go home and throw out my Doxycycline which I did. 6 months later, I have central nervous system problems and am in need of intravenous antibiotics. Thanks Dr. Casey!

Extremely competent and caring. Always provides explanations and always happy to answer patient questions. I could not imagine a better doctor.
