Dr. Kathleen Marie Ryan, MD

1. Gone through menopause, 3 years later, unusual bleeding (more than 7 days) and in a lot of pain 2. When to see Ryan, gave pills to stop bleeding & prescribed Vicodin for pain 3. Bleeding wasn’t stopping, did ultra sound - diagnosed that fibroids were enlarged causing the bleeding & pain. 4. Knew something was terribly wrong, asked to be tested for cancer (CA125), never contacted me about results. I called, normal is 39, test was 129. I said I have cancer, Ryan said sometimes with fibroids it could cause numbers to elevate. 5. When to see 2 other doctors in Kaiser & treat as a new case, they said exactly the same. 6. Asked what I could do, tired of bleeding for 6 months, being in pain & having to take Viodin - recommended hysterectomy. 7. Decided to have hysterectomy, couldn’t schedule until 4 months later. 8. Thank god, I decided to have the surgery, or it would of never been discovered, what I expected CANCER, stage 2. I 9. If it was diagnosed at the beginning,… it probably would of been Stage 1. 10. Doctor Ignored all the signs, that it might be cancer: unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, urinating a lot, fibroids enlarged (should of shank after menopause) & CA125 test elevated. 11. Ryan was very unprofessional, the patient should always be the one you inform about the surgery & my decision who & how I inform my family. She told my parents about the CANCER, right after the surgery - they just lost another daughter and my dad has a bad heart, it was NOT her place to say anything, especially when it’s not good news.

i really like dr ryan--she is thorough and caring, orders tests when there are problems without having to by pressed, spends time with patients, provides info about what she is doing, offers treatment options when needed and is good at answering questions. sometimes there is a wait to get an appointment and she tends to run behind, but i think it's because she runs over with needy patients sometimes. i don't mind that too much, since she also gives me the time that i need (even though it usually isn't that much.).
