Dr. Kathryn E Ackerman, MD

If I could do not stars I would I had seen an ortho regarding pain/injuries and he suggested seeing Dr Ackerman due to her specialty in sports medicine and endocrinology. I was excited to see her because of my medical history and thought she’d be the answer to all my problems. In the exam room, the student doctor seemed nice and understanding but once Dr Ackerman came in, she changed. I was interrogated the whole time, being told I make excuses as to not exercising, I should be counting calories, there’s nothing wrong with me, I am making myself feel bad, there’s no reason why I can’t pay for a gym membership, etc. At one point she said something along the lines of if I didn’t exercise because I was in pain then it would be a different story. Meanwhile I wearing a very visible knee brace and at the time, my issue for lack of movement was pain in multiple areas. She ignored my eating disorder background as well as thyroid history telling me that people with Graves’ Disease are… typically not overweight. I never ever cry in doctors appointment but I was almost immediately in tears due to the disrespect and frustration. I was someone who had a lot of things going on medically, looking for help to find answers, and was interrogated and told it was all my fault. She didn’t even do an exam or look at my history. This woman should not be a doctor. She does more damage than good.

Dr Ackerman is exceptionally bright and very knowledgeable across multiple disciplines. She listens and makes treatment decisions that are effective and much appreciated! I enjoyed her straightforward demeanor and commitment to patient care.

As a not-so-young competitive rower, Dr. Ackerman's treatments helped enable me to row pain free in national and international regattas.

Dr Ackerman is probably one of the best physician's I have ever seen. She is very thorough, personable, takes the time to really listen and answer questions. She truly cares about her patients and takes as much time as necessary in order to treat them as a person, not just a number. I do not have enough good things to say about her and her staff.

Dr. Ackerman was so sweet and personable when I saw her but then we started talking about my medical history and I was blow away by her knowledge and expertise. I highly recommend this doctor, she knows her stuff inside and out and is the nicest person to boot!!!

I had been having trouble with my birth control which I was given by another doctor when I started struggling with irregular menstrual cycles which came on when I started running harder in high school. The birth control my doctor gave me made me feel awful and it was making me sick. I even eventually started having seizures and my doctor did not believe me when I told him I was struggling with the medication he had prescribed. A friend of mine told me to go see Dr. Ackerman asap. It was the best medical decision I've ever made and after one visit Dr. Ackerman not only had me on a different medication that worked like a dream but she also called me to check up on me for months after I had seen her. I am so grateful and can't thank her enough. I love Dr. Ackerman and recommend not only my athlete friends but any young men or women I know who need a doctor because I trust her so much!

I saw Dr. Ackerman for my patellar tendinitis. I had seen other doctors who simply told me not to run for a year and quickly ushered me out of the office because I wasn't a surgical candidate. Dr. Ackerman spent significant time with me and appreciated my needs for a speedy recovery and full function. She sent me to the right PT, referred me to another specialist at Children's for an injection, , and still wanted to follow up to make sure my recovery was on course.

We found Dr. Ackerman to be really helpful. We were referred to her because of her speciality in female athlete triad and we heard she saw athletes with eating disorders and bone problems. She and her colleagues really helped my daughter. She is a straight shooter, but very compassionate.

There are many great doctors in Boston, Dr. Ackerman is not one of them. She is arrogant, condescending, rude, overall a very unpleasant person. Doesn't listen, makes judgements based on little facts, we found her to be more harmful than helpful.

We waited for 1.5 hours only to have her breeze in, spend 6 min. She was rude, dismissive, and condescending. Never again.
