Dr. Kathryn Borgenicht, MD

If you have elderly loved ones make sure Dr. Borgenicht comes no where near them. I heard numerous horror stories before my family experienced it for ourselves. My grandma fell ill & was eventually put in a nursing home temporarily for rehabilitation. Dr. B (without an examination or even taking one look at my Gma) took her off of her usual low dose of Codeine & put her on high doses of morphine. When it didn't work once a day, she prescribed it again for twice a day. My usually meek, sweet, & calm grandma started acting & feeling scared like she was losing her mind. She started fighting to come out of her drug induced delirium & my family insisted she be taken off the morphine. We found her a different doctor that diagnosed the underlying problem & treated it without the high doses of morphine. It's been almost 2 years. My Gma is alive, happy, & healthy. She still asks questions about her time in the nursing home which prompted this review. If my family hadn't stayed on top of… everything that was going on, Dr. Borgenicht would've tried to "keep her comfortable" on Morphine until she gave up the fight & passed away. Every time I hear a similar story, it's always the same doctor.

She treated my mother like she was old & going to die anyway, uncaring, & no compassion! She treated a friend's mother the same way! She barely talks to the patient!

Dr. B takes her time and has nothing but what is the best care for her patients...on an individual basis....on her mind!! She does tell it like it is so if you want sugar coating she probably isn't the one for you.

Dr. Borgenicht was the first and only physician that understood our situation with my mother who was suffering from early-onset dementia. She listened, gave options and followed through. Excellent physician.

So far I am unimpressed, but since she is the doctor to most of the nursing homes in Bozeman, you are just stuck with her. Her PA - Becca is amazing though and the staff I have dealt with courteous!!! At this time, my mother is in a nursing home that is under her care. They do not allowed restraints (bed rails) and my mother has fallen out of bed twice. The first I can see because she was pretty mobile up until the fall. The nursing staff could not have known or prevented the first fall. She was in the hospital several days and released back to the nursing home. At our insistance they are using Posey Soft Rails. But since her pain was not being continously controlled, she pulled herself over the soft rails and fell again. She was in pain for hours and hours and at our and hospice's insistance was finally approved for pain meds on the hour "as needed". The "as needed" was left to interpretation and thus she sayed in pain until I through a fit. My mother is 91 years old and… should not be allowed to be in pain enough at this point to try to get out of bed because her hip hurts. If they cannot restraint they should sedate in my opinion. I am not happy at all with how Dr. B listens to or cares about the families opinion.

Because Dr. Borgenicht is the only Doctor in Bozeman with a Geriatric specialty, we asked her to provide a Geriatric Assessment of our elderly father. Normally, such an evaluation takes a minimum of a day. Her evaluation lasted less than 30 minutes, did not evaluate phyical issues, pchological or pychiatric problems. He evaluation was limited to a verbal interview from which she concluded - seems ok to me. But maybe he should see a psychiatrist. Dr. Borgenicht should know that a complete geriatric evaluation requires a three phased analysis of the patient. The court found her report next to useless and cause a huge waste of legal time and people time of the parties involved. We strongly recommend not using Dr. Borgenicht for any geriatric matter.
