Dr. Kaylene Daryl Weircox, MD

My wife and I were taking a weekend trip to Polk County wine country when stomach pain hit. At the ER, I met Dr. Weircox who had just started 10 days as a visiting surgeon at the hospital. In the 6 days since, my wife and I have come to realize I was very blessed to have been under her care to fix a diverticulitis-induced intestinal penetration. Dr. Weircox is clearly a deeply experienced surgeon, extremely knowledgeable about the abdomen and thorough in her coverage of all solutions related to the problem I faced (things like diet and lifestyle issues). It’s a subjective statement, but I can truly say she clearly cares about the patient. She was thorough in her descriptions and answers while not rushing away to the next patient. Instead, she stayed and took the time to make sure our issues were addressed. She asked efficient and caring questions. And, for the first time in my experience with doctors at large, actually shared her own life experiences related to our issues that came… up. I see Dr. Weircox as a Godsend to address my unplanned, acute problem. My experience with her is at the top of any medical experience in my 65 years of life. Thank you, Dr. Weircox, from the bottom of my heart!

Very thorough explaining my diagnosis to me and my family. Patiently answered all of our questions. Very pleasant and approachable. Did an excellent job with my surgery, I was told by some of the nurses that I would have died if she had not gotten me to surgery as quickly as she did. Had an excellent experience in the hospital also. Staff was friendly and very helpful.

A very good doctor, plenty of professionalism, medical knowledge and bed side manner. Makes explanations of problems and diagnosis in laymans terms.Office environment could be upgraded.

DO NOT CHOOSE THIS SURGEON!This woman almost killed my relative by simply not examining them after becoming the admitting physician after an emergency room visit. Had she checked on and examined the patient she admitted at approx. 7pm, she would have realized the nursing staff had NOT attached the suction running from his chest tube. She did not read his chart the next morning before coming in and attempting to disconnect said suction; the patient had to fill her in that it had only been back on for four hours, rather than all night. She then disappeared, not to be seen again for another 24-36 hours. Again, no physical examination of the patient or the affected area.Finally, after removing the tube she put a small bandage that fell off the sutures/wound before she left the bedside; she smoothed it back on with her flat hand. Nurses later found it flapping with the sutures completely exposed and fussed at my relative to keep it covered because if it was exposed to air or water, his… lung would collapse again and he would most likely be killed. Weircox told him none of this, actually even telling him he could shower in this bandage that then fell loose several times within minutes of being applied. The floor nurses had to secure a true bandage that was water resistant and also inform him of the serious risk to his health.This is a small sample of the experience we are now sharing with the grievance committee at Providence Northeast Hospital. It is our opinion that a patient will have to die in order for someone to put a stop to the kind of medicine being practiced - and I do mean practiced - by this person.
