Dr. Lillemoe treated me as if I where the only patient he had. He took it upon himself not only to save me from pancreatic cancer but fix a hernia I'. had for years. He followed up with me veey closely even giving me his home phone in case I needed anything. He has become a dear and trusted friend.

Dr. Lillemoe did a Whipple Procedure on my 84-year-old father and then went abroad, leaving my father in care of Dr. Nakeeb. The Whipple is an major procedure, involving removal of 1/3 of the stomach including the pylorus, a good chunk of the liver and pancreas, and removal of the duodenum. A gastric feeding/drainage tube was inserted as well as a feeding tube in the jejunum. The j-tube is used for nutrition in case the recovery takes longer than the young-person normal of 3-4 days. The first night after surgery my dad was confused from anesthesia hang-over and attempted to get up to use the bathroom. In the process, he dislodged his g- and j-tubes. The surgeon was called in to replace the tubes. A chemical straight-jacket drug was prescribed in lieu of actual restraints. That medicine was continued for 2 months, leading (in my opinion) to irreversible cognitive problems. By the way, a small possible cancer in the duodenum is all that was discovered, so the Whipple procedure, though… done expertly, was more than dad needed. He was in a nursing home 6 months recovering from the surgery.
