Dr. Keith Gilbert Tokuhara, MD

My cataract journey started with an optometrsit who referred me to another surgeon. That surgeon ruptured my lens capsuel during surgey, then told me I needed to go to UCLA for a fix... nevermind that I couldn't safely drive there. I felt abandoned and anxious about what to do next. I decided to do my own research instead of blindly trusting referrals again. That's how I found Dr. Keith Tokuhara at Desert Vision Center.. and thank God, I did. He listened to my entire history, explained exactly what went wrong, and made a plan not only to address the remaining cataract in my other eye, but also to correct the lens problem from the previous surgery from my first surgeon. Dr. Tokuhara's results were flawless. My vision is crystal clear, my eyes feel healthy, and I finally have peace of mind. Dr. Tokuhara has the highest level of technology, the most professional and caring staff I have ever seen, and (unlike other places), he never once tried to upsell me on procedures or lenses I… didn't need. I will never again trust a referral without doing my own research, and I will recommend Dr. Tokuhara to everyone I know. He is everything you could want in a surgeon: skilled, ethical, compassionate, and committed to doing what's best for the patient. If I could give 10 stars, I would.

I was a satisfied patient of Dr Tokuhara for about two years. I need eye injections every couple of months. When I tried to schedule an appointment two months in advance, I was told he would no longer treat me for my retinal issues. The reason given was that I had cataract surgery elsewhere. (Where I spend summers.) He holds himself out as a retinal specialist, but refuses future care? This does not seem ethical.

I recently had need for a laser eye treatment and visited Dr. Tokuhara. He is compassionate, friendly, and very communicative, making complex issues very understandable. His office staff is warm, organized, and very patient-oriented. His practice has my highest recommendation, and will be my choice for eye care in the future!

I was referred to another eye doctor in the area, a "specialist," who told me my cataracts were too complicated and that I would need to go to UCLA to have it done. But fortunately I didn't listen to him, and got a second opinion from Dr. Tokuhara instead. My co-worker told me Dr. T was the ONLY eye doctor she would go to in the Coachella Valley, so I decided to give him a try. From the moment I went into the office, all my questions were answered. Dr. T explained that yes, it was complicated, but nothing that he couldn't fix. Dr. T did an exceptional job, fixed my cataracts and now I don't even need glasses.

I had great apprehension since I had a really bad experience with another opthomologist. Doctor Tokuhara is knowledgeable and trustworthy. Prior to undergoing surgery he talked to me and made me feel comfortable that my condition would be treated successfully. My results are amazing. I am grateful to doctor and his wonderful staff.

Dr. Tokuhara is the BEST eye doctor. My mother was turned down by several other ophthalmologists because of her Alzheimer's and they refused to help her. Ever since Dr. Tokuhara did her cataract surgery and her bad cataract has been fixed her whole demeanor has improved and she can now recognize her children again! We are all so grateful to see her smile everytime we visit her now!
