Dr. Kelly Robert Bergmann

In Aug 2018 our daughter went to the Er for possible appendicitis. The DO on staff in the ER did not ask about her periods, her degree of pain, did not palpate her stomach, did not listen to her lungs, and in fact treated our daughter as someone cognitively delayed (she is in a wheelchair but off to Rice University in the Fall so clearly not cognitively impaired. ) My sister was present for the last half of our visit. She is a doctor - Infectious Disease. The nurse didn't even turn on the IV. My sister, was insistent we complain, said she would fire the DO for his lack of care, and she then conducted an exam herself. I brought the care, or lack thereof, to their attention really as an expression of concern over their lack of duty of care. Rather than hear our concerns they sent the information to "committee" over a $400 bill. I suspect many more hours than $400 worth have now been put in by hospital administration over this issue. I certainly am now over my hourly wage too. But… this degree of incompetence was really awful and could have had dire consequences but fortunately did not and we frankly had our in-house doctor (sister) with us for the next 4 days so felt OK taking our daughter home. She did not have an appendicitis; so that is the good news. We received a response regarding our request to have the bill reviewed (I really wanted the doctor reviewed) 5 months after the visit that they believe care was delivered correctly and the issue is closed to them. So I guess my sister who runs an infectious disease clinic and speaks all over the world got it wrong. And me - mom a special needs kid - my gut was wrong too. And Childrens isn't biased in their review of themselves. I post this not in spite, but to let others know that the care we received at Childrens St. Paul was negligent and only because my sister had come to town did we feel comfortable returning home with our ill daughter otherwise we would have had to go elsewhere. This is an easy and clear case of simply bad doctoring by a DO in the ER at Childrens St. Paul. And their review committee has now revised themselves and somehow magically they think they did OK. I see a Conflict of interest resulting in a bad decision. And I do not see a process to improve care for children.
