Dr. Kelly Alexandra Shimada, DDS

I saw Dr. Shimada for the first time last Thursday. She diagnosed 14 cavities and said I needed 11 fillings done immediately to avoid root canals. I have never had more than 2 or 3 cavities at a time, so this diagnosis seemed absurd. I sought out a second opinion from a doctor with 30+ years of experience who’s also a USC dental professor. She had me take all new dental X-Rays, because the historical records sent by Dr. Shimada’s office (South Redondo Dental Group) were blurry and unreadable. Her findings: 3 cavities. Also, her office did not seem very Covid safe. Before my appointment, I was crammed into a small, under-construction, waiting room with 4 other patients and 2 receptionists. The farthest I could be from another person was 1 foot. If you’re looking for a quality dentist in Redondo Beach or the South Bay area, I’d avoid South Redondo Dental Group, Dr. Kelly Shimada and her partner Dr. Gregory Shvartsman. They are not as skilled as they seem.
