Dr. Kelty Ruth Baker, MD

recently had an appointment with Dr Baker and needles to say her bedside manner was not what I expected at all. When informing me about my condition she basically stated that the condition occurs more frequently in blacks vs whites and that it may be due to the fact that blacks have more pesticides in their homes! In one sentence she disrespected not only me but an entire race of people and it didn’t even seem to concern her. This was my first actual visit with her while other visits were handled by her assistant. She made other race comparisons in the same manner which was totally ridiculous, very unprofessional and disrespectful. I was appalled by her comments and there was a time where I asked her did she really say that and other times were I had to chuckle to keep from getting upset, I even contemplated recording her because I was really in disbelief at what she was saying. She drew drawings on her dry erase board and told me to take pictures as if I couldn’t follow what she was… saying verbally. If she continues to practice she DEFINITELY needs diversity training!

It was the first time a Doctor has treated me as a person..not a number or “just a case”. She answered every question we asked, With medical terms and in a way that was easy to understand. Her staff was equally attentive and compassionate

Dr. Baker is a very mean person. I am not sure why she is in medical field, when she is not a compassionate person. She was rude, intimidate and belittle whomever she talks to or associated with (patient, staff....). She should be ban from medical field. She should be reported!!

I am currently being treated by Dr. Baker for a blood disorder she diagnosed several months ago. I find Dr. Baker to consistently be a most kind and caring physician, always willing to spend the necessary time explaining my treatment progress and answering all of my questions. Even more impressive was the time she spent on my initial visit explaining the cause of my illness. I have never had a doctor take the time to explain an illness in such detail and in a way that I could easily understand. Through the course of my treatment I have always felt she is truly concerned about me as a patient. Her staff is equally as kind. I am welcomed to each visit with friendly smiles and always treated with dignity and respect. My thanks go out to Dr. Baker and her staff.

I had a pre-op appointment with her. She is very thorough, knowledgeable, very logical and has a most pleasant personality. She communicates well and answers all of your questions patiently. Highly recommended!

She is the most horrible doctor.. never in my 50 some years have I ever had a doctor speak to patients and family let alone hospital staff the way she does... I am reporting her the medical board. She should NOT be able to treat people let alone sick patients the way she does

I'm a patient of Dr. Baker already 10 years. She went with me through very difficult time in my life. I'm so thankful her for higher level of professionalism, sensitivity to the people's problems and the high commitment. Thank you so much, my best doctor ever!

As of today, our family is in the 9th week of my father's Acute Myeloid Leukemia diagnosis and hospitalization with serious complications of his heart and kidneys as a result of the Leukemia blast. Our family has taken turns driving 4-6 hours to Houston and spending weeks at a time with our Mom and Dad to help them through this. As a result, we've learned a lot in a short time and are the continuity of information with hundreds of medical staff attending my Dad at Houston Methodist Hospital throughout the last nine weeks. We have been so impressed by the care of everyone from the ones bringing Dad his food to the specialty doctors that attend to his overall care. We have many questions which have gotten more intelligent over time and although there's been bouts of frustration mixed with emotion throughout his care, everyone has handled us with respect and patience. We understand the balance of information among the professionals, but in our experience and to my Dad's detriment which… led to another trip to ICU, information gets missed sometimes so we do our best to stay on top of the latest information given us by Dad's team. The weekends are a different scene with on call doctors caring for patients that aren't theirs. Although a patient's chart keeps everyone informed, we respectfully give the latest information when a different doctor comes in and starts talking about changing things. Dr. Baker was on this weekend and we've never seen her before so when she started talking about changing something that was a serious discussion between all three specialty groups earlier in the week, I said something about it and I could tell that she didn't like me telling her, but I affirmed what she wanted to change was what everyone else is concerned about, but in the interest of other issues, all agreed to wait. Today (Sunday), my Dad developed a swollen and hot lump and when Dr. Baker examined it, she diagnosed it as one thing and I asked if it could be something else. Her response was incredibly defensive, sarcastic and condescending towards me and I tried to address her attitude towards me saying I was only asking a question. She turned her back on me and continued her exam. My mother mentioned something that was helpful information and she stopped her track of treatment she was proposing and turned towards the course of action the Internal Med doc who was with her suggested before, but she dismissed as "wasting time". I've read her reviews and I'm sure she's an excellent physician, but I don't care who you are, there's NO reason to treat anyone with such disrespect. I'm offended beyond words. She owes me an apology for demeaning me in front of my parents and her colleague. My number one priority is to learn myself and to help my Mom and Dad understand what's going on; not to disrespect or question a physician's intelligence. Dr. Baker is the only physician in 9 weeks to treat anyone of us so disrespectfully.

Dr. Kelty Ruth Baker saved my husband's life...what more can I say? God bless her for all she does for her patients and the medical world! Texas is very lucky to have her!
