Dr. Kenneth Wayne Houchin, MD

All I can say is do not go to this guy! I can’t describe how I felt with him except for nervous. He was cordial at first but became more and more quiet with each appointment. At my LAST appointment he was down right rude. So, last year my glasses cost over $900. and I have never in my life paid that much. This year I decided to have my exam with him and get my glasses at Costco. After I told one of the girls this the Dr. found out and asked me if that was all I wanted that day. Just a prescription? I should have pointed out that I saw him every three months . Didn’t that count for anything? He diagnosed me with something I need to get a second opinion on anyway. I used the drops he prescribed for a year and my diagnosis improved. Unbeknownst to him I did NOT use the drops for a year and my eyes miraculously stayed at the improved state. My question is, do I trust his diagnosis? When I first went in I was impressed with his credentials. Shouldn’t a genius like that have… more pride though? The place is dark and dank and about fifty years out of date as far as decor goes. If he won’t even afford a new mask used in the peripheral test he probably doesn’t use up to date equipment. The elastic is stretched out and has been tied and pinned. I’ll bet he can order one off of Amazon for $10. Lol! He did one exam on me for sight and the girls he hires off the street have done the rest of them. He hates people. He’s completely over his job. He needs to retire !!!

I’ve been in Dr Houchin’s care for the past six years at least. I did take a break for a year because I wasn’t getting answers. But honestly, his whole demeanor has lightened up since he opened his own office. He explains the tests and the results now. Before I had to have what I lovingly referred to as a Houchin whisperer but no more. He still seems introverted, and that’s ok if it means I’m getting good care then I’m fine with it. I’ve never had a problem with his hygiene, he always is clean and his clothes are nice, never sensed a smell. And I have not once seen him in scrubs. Clean or torn. It’s like I’ve met someone different than the others describe.

I had been a long time patient of Dr. Houchin and due to my limited insurance and income, I remained. NO longer! To sum up what others have already stated, this man does not listen and he doesn't pretend to even respect you enough to fake it. He is pushing border lime dementia and during your whole appointment, all he is doing is typing and blowing you off. On several occasions, he has given me contradicting information. I trusted him because he has been declared the only optical neurologist in the whole state of Nevada.....a title means nothing if you can't live up to it.

After waiting 3 hours to be seen for the first appointment and discussing the diagnosis he was incorrect. I had to call the retinal specialist back to verify what he had told me to clarify the answer with Kenneth Houchin. Kenneth houchens response was it's going to take a lot to convince me what I'm seeing is not right. Dr Houchin told me to see a retinal specialist. After repeatedly telling Dr Houchin that I already visited Dr Holyfield his reply was oh so you were already at a retinal specialist. This man was all over the place. This scrubs that he wore were ripped Stained color faded old nasty disgusting scrubs. The two times I visited him he never washed his hands. The equipment is old. Missing screws where I had to hold up the chin bar to place my chin into the metal bar which had no papers or a cushion to rest my chin. I know doctors don't have bedside manners. But this doctor is by far the worst physician I have ever visited in my entire life. The last time I visited he started… yelling and screaming at me pointing his finger into my face. The only reason I went to the office was to get the results of a test that he ordered. The first appointment was scheduled I did my copay. After he decided he needed to speak with Dr Holyfield it was a conference call appointment no charge. I had to come back 2 Days Later. I am now receiving a bill for appointments that I never went to. This doctor is so soured by the letter that I had written to him about his behavior his unprofessionalism his hygiene which was disgusting you can't even be in the same room the stench is that bad. He is now sending me Bills every week that do not fall into the schedule that I had my appointments. I find this man to be outrageously ignorant unprofessional and if anybody has any sense about them please do not go to this doctor. I have never written such a post before that was so detrimental to someone but I found it to be completely necessary to steer people clear of this office for many reasons as you can read

Dr Houchin is one of the worst drs I've been to in my life. He kept having audible "sighs" when I would answer his questions. Told me over and over he didnt care with what I was diagnosed with by a real Neurologist and it was relevant to my visit with him!!! Told me he didnt care about what my vision was. Why is this man allowed to practice?

I went to Dr. Houchin with the hope of reducing the tear troughs under my eyes. He injected Juvederm under the skin (it's supposed to go under the muscle) and now I have basically blueish/black bubbles under my eyes that will not go away for approximately 9-12 months. I had a horrible black eye that looked like I'd been mugged...well, I guess I was since it seems like highway robbery to have paid for such a disasterous procedure. I have an appointment with a cosmetic surgeon to dissolve the juvederm and return to my normal tear trough self.

No bedside manners!Will not talk to you, nor answer questions.

Dr. Kenneth W. Houchin is the worst doctor I have ever met! I took my teenage daughter to see him for a sudden loss of her central vision. He kept his back to me and my husband the entire visit and only acknowledged us when he walked out. When we went back for the second visit I had questions I wanted answered. I made the mistake of asking him the questions and he became very rude and defensive. I was told he didn't have time to answer my questions, after we waited 3.5 hours to be seen. I was also told, "Maybe you shouldn't be distracted by so many incidental things." The incidental things he was referring to were brain tumors and a stroke. In my opinion, Kenneth Houchin is a horrible doctor!!!!!

DR. HOUCHIN IS UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, IMPATIENT AND INCOMPETENT. I SPENT ABOUT 2 MINUTES WITH THIS MAN AND WALKED OUT. CASE CLOSED.

Do not, under any circumstances, let this "doctor" do any surgery on your eyes! He told me that I have cataracts, and, yes I do. However, when he did the surgery on my eye, he used a method I was told that was archaic (used by very few doctors today). In addition, he caused me to be temporarily (I hope) blind in that eye! He said he couldn't go in and "fix" the problem because he had to wait for 90 days for the insurance to pay for it. Really? You screw up the operation and should not be paid for it to begin with, and now you have to wait 90 days to get more money from the insurance company to be able to maybe mess it up more? I don't think so! Now seeing another, much better, doctor to fix the problem Houchin caused. In meantime, I have to suffer for his mistakes. Don't make the same mistake I did.
