Dr. Kenneth Kent Kimmel, MD

I went to Dr. Kimmel a few years ago for a few GI issues i was having. One was very rapid, unnatural weight gain and my eating habits had not changed. He simply said “calories in equals calories out, you’re just eating too much”. He also undid my belt and unzipped my pants without any sort of warning or verbal consent. I had a friend in the room for moral support and he never checked whether I was comfortable with him doing a pelvic exam with my pants undone with the friend in the room. He also preformed an endoscopy on me and the first thing he told me when I woke up was “do you want to guess what’s wrong with you?!” Trying to make a joke but I was still heavily sedated and confused. The procedure was invasive and all i wanted was answers not questions. Went to another GI doctor who was amazing and she discovered my “weight gain” was intense bloating due to food intolerances within the first two appointments. Moral of the story is Dr. Kimmel caused me more harm than good

Wait time is long. Dr Kimmel is never on time, always late. Staff is nice. Relating one on one I found him to be arrogant. During exam, he told me a misogynistic "joke". It was shocking and I would never go back to see this doctor

This Dr. caused injury. Though a known 1% chance of getting pancreatitis with the MCRP procedure this Dr. only increased the odds by causing trauma to my pancreas. After telling my family the procedure was unsuccessful and that he did not have the correct tools and he poked around longer than he should have. I developed necrotizing pancreatitis. I would not take a stray cat to this Dr. to receive a pill.

Today, I received a colonosocopy and an endoscopy from Dr. Kimmel. He was very kind, caring, and reassuring. He did not seemed rushed for time, and his humor and casualness calmed my great anxiety. Every nurse I encountered was exceptionally kind. I was terrified of the procedures planned, but everyone worked hard to relieve my stress level---and it worked! I greatly appreciate each of you involved in my care!

This is my first review for a doctor and I felt compelled to write one for this Dr. The staff is competent and do well at their job. The wait time is excessively long usually, but it is most assuredly always running late. Dr. Kimmel seems to have the knowledge about the gastrointestinal tract but his ability to diagnose AND treat is poor to say it in the nicest possible way. He does have manners in is well spoken and straightforward which is a plus. But the constant followup visits and refusal do to certain tests you may ask for is inexcusable. Pertaining to the treatments, he may use you as a guinea pig without telling you so ALWAYS ask the pharmacist about the medication he prescribed and if it can be used for the purpose he prescribed it. Overall, if you are going to spend the money on such a important aspect of your health I feel that it is worth a trip to go to Kansas City for a specialist rather then one located in a town like Lawrence.
