Worst Dr experience of my life.Condescending.Rude.Pushy.NO bedside manner AT ALL.NOT good 4 any1 who suffers with chronic depression anxiety disorders PTSD panic attacks ocd or bipolar disorder.When I quickly found a new provider I called to cancel My follow-up appt with Sumner I was asked by the office manager “what explanation she could provide to him for the cancellation” I had to B honest and advise he was a male appendage.

Everyone who wrote about the office staff was right on the money. They are the rudest bunch of women around. Dr. Sumner is strictly in it for the insurance money. You are basically paying for him to write the Rx. Don't even get me started on the times he cancelled an appointment because his personal plans changed and you were in the way of a golf game! Run....don't walk away from this office...unless you like taking abuse from the staff!

The front desk staff are the rudest bunch ,that I have absolutelycome in çontact with and they no compassion for patients and are extremely argumentative and are only concerned about the money. They make your life more stressful. Run , do not walk away from this office. Even if you call to say that you are stuck in traffic , they will tell you that your appointment would have to be rescheduled because you were 10 minutes late and your appointment was only for 15 minutes and will send you a statement for $75.00 and post it as a no show . You are left with no medication and you are screwed. You would be better off at University Hospital.

I am a new patient to Dr. Sumner and I really enjoyed him as a doctor. However, making an appointment and dealing with the office staff is a different story. When you call the office they put you on hold for almost 10 minutes. When I voiced my unhappiness with being put on hold TWICE I was confronted by a very rude/unpleasant office representative who offered no apology or explanation. When I got there is person, I was met with the same attitude from the office staff. They are very unpleasant and they do not know how to handle patients. It is very disappointing because the doctor is great but his staff is HORRIBLE. Unfortunately for that reason, I will find another doctor to go to. I suggest he gets new staffing if he wants to stay in business....

Was recommended by a close friend - and so happy that I was.Dr. Sumner listened attentively, was able to evaluate the main issues and has a compassionate but knowledgable bedside manner without any fluff. Professional, concise, trustworthy - I would highly recommend him.

This office staff has ZERO cooth in dealing with patients- in fact today I called to say I would possibly be late as I was haviing a hard time- I am obviously a mental health patient , and fully disabled...there is zero staff margin for consideration of things that may arise in the average psychiatric patients life affecting scheduling., appointments or - most importantly- a little lattitude when necessary- I asked for a 15 minute delay..I have waited more than 20 minutes before- I ask how is it OK for the doctor to be late but not a patient? Particularly , when I called ahead to try and explain and alert them. When I got the check in ( i was in fact late) there was still 10 minutes available for the appointment- the doctor did not want to see me I guess as the sign in clerc made a call and said "your 4 o'clock is also here"..They rescheduled me..weeks later.and when I explained that I had called ahead the girl at the sign in wanted to argue that 15 minutes was not… acceptable..and wanted me to enter into a confrontation - in front of a waiting room full of patients- with the person that I spoke with when I called ..Seriously inappropriate behaviour, office "skills" when dealing with the mentally ill, and just plain uncooth, not to mention privacy issues...I feel that most of the patients in the practice I see in the waiting area are far less impaired than I am..this should have been considered - namely, by the doctor who was probably not made aware of my prior to the appointment call. I am , as you can tell, not at all impressed with the staff.This is their second screw-up- before this, i made an appointment and spoke with the doctor,When I got there they greeted me with you owe us $150.00 for your missed appointment- there was no communivcation between the doctor and staff- and rudeness of the staff that time, was simply inexcusable- though the doctor did admit to them it "was [his] mistake".Again, no one shoul greet a patient rudely, using their last name, and loud enough so everyone in the rather large waiting room could hear..I would seriously keep looking for another doctor- When a doctor awarer of your mental stste doesn't bother to at least give you the time you tried to take advantage of- I don't care if it's 5 minutes, that is long enough for a meds check, which is what i am supposedly there for- At another area Psychiatric complex (Ponch.MentalHealth, New Orleans) they schedule 15 minute appointments for med checks- I should have at least been greeted by this supposedly "caring" professional as that's the demenaor he tries to present. This guy wants to avoid dealing with the issues I came to him with after ddealing with a doctor and his practice I was involved with for over 13 years ( i was forced to move back to New Orleans abruptly to care for elderly parents to the best of my abilities).He wanted to label me with diagnoses other than had been the case for most of my life, change my meds which i explained to him took me and the doctor in the previous state I lived in 3 years to get the dosage and prescription correct for me and my body, and wants me to take anti-addiction drugs when I am not remotely a drug addict! In fact I hate going to doctors at all, but due to my mental and physical conditions is not treatable over-the-counter. The staff is one reason, as I am writing this I am strongly considering seeking another doctor, the doctor himself, the main reason. These incidents seem rampant as a patient followed me into the hall ( apparently after overhearing what had transpired!) and said " in his experience with this office this is how they operate, and he was sorry they had just upset me( though not the words he used!)and yes, everyone heard what had transpired and he noticed others also made uncomfortable in the waiting room too)..When a patient , a stranger, apologizes for a doctor and staff's behaviours that should say something to you the prospective patient...keep looking if you have alternatives!

The dr. was very good, But the staff has a very poor attitude and not very friendly at all in person and on the phone.Also they take too long to fill out paperwork for you if you need it.The staff could use a makeover.

Ive seen many doctors over many years, none which I felt made me comfortable to stay with for more than a few years - my experience with Dr Sumner is always on that I know I get his full attention to my issues and he always listens to me before making a rash diagnosis, making an opinion or suggestion. Girls at the front desk aren't the most pleasant, and they love to put you on hold for 15 minutes or more when you call - but once you are in to see him, it will be worth it. The major issue I continuously have unfortunately is the office staff who answer phones and schedule appointments. Possibly could use some training on working better with people with obvious mental / personality issues - just a suggestion!
