Dr. Kenneth Arthur Zipkin

Dr. Zipkin enjoyed childhood in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, NY. The family moved to the south shore of Long Island where he attended Lawrence High School which provided high-quality education in a clean and peaceful learning environment.
Dr. Zipkin attended four interesting, exciting, and bone crushing years at NYU School of Engineering. Extra-curricular activity in his freshman year was singing with NYU’S Glee Club.
Dr. Zipkin graduated as an Industrial/Mechanical engineer in 1960 and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers. He served two years as executive officer of a heavy equipment rebuild company serving all of Europe, and was safety officer on the General’s staff, 4th Log command, France. Nowhere, except the armed services, could a person so young be given such responsibility and accountability at such a high level.
After several years of working in the engineering department of the N.Y. Telephone Co. and working towards an MBA at NYU, he changed …his life’s direction. After two more years at Hunter College and Columbia University studying biology and chemistry, he was admitted to NYU’s College of Dentistry, graduating with honors as a DDS in 1971. Dr. Zipkin did his Post-Doctoral residency in Orthodontics at N.Y.U. and was awarded a Master of Science degree in 1973.
Dr. Zipkin practiced reconstructive General Dentistry and Orthodontics for two years in Brooklyn. Shortly thereafter, he established two office locations, in Glen Cove and Westbury, NY, for the specialty limited practice of Orthodontics and Oral Orthopedics (TMJ and obstructive Sleep Apnea).
His interests are varied and many. Sports of all kinds were enjoyable. His paintings as well as sculpture (figure study and portraiture) are displayed at home and offices. Since he enjoys playing and composing on guitar and piano, music has played an important part in his life.
Dr. Zipkin’s great delight is helping people. Over the past 35 years, thousands of patients and parents have experienced the personal touch of the philosophy of caring shared by all those in the practice. The clinical and administrative people in Dr. Zipkin’s offce are always selected for their caring and sweetness as well as expertise and talent.
Over those years in Orthodontic practice, Dr. Zipkin has spent thousands of hours of post graduate study in the areas of clinical practice, psychology, philosophy and research, and it never stops. Dr. Zipkin believes that continuing education is mandatory if we are to provide superior and excellent service to those we help. The proof of the pudding lies in the happy smiling faces of patients whose treatment was completed years ago and who return to say “Hi!” or stop us in the street with friendship and affection. That is one important definition of success!
