Dr. Kent Chan, MD

I have never been treated this way at a medical office in my life before. Especially one that should be very sensitive to it’s oncology patients. I was refused to see the doctor because I came to my 11am appointment at 11:10am. I got pushed out of the door while the office “manager” told me to get out and that my appointment was cancelled without even offering a new appointment to me. Once I explained to them that I was coming from approximately 60 miles away they did not want to hear it and put her hands by my shoulder to get me away from the door. It was not like I had committed a crime. My only mistake was to seek proper medical care. The mistreatment I got here as a potential cancer patient has been the worse I can explain. The distress this office has caused me is beyond words. No cancer patient should have to go through this stress on top of all the medical complications one is going through.

Rushed during consultation and couldn't ask questions. Poor follow up and bad communication skills. Shows no care for patients. Cold and insensitive. Recommend you find a different doctor.

Had to wait over a month for an appointment, same for the next. That does say something about the doctor. The staff could be a lot more courteous, less laughter in the hallways and more professional. Maybe they were having a bad day, but so are the sick people in the office. Parking if you are handicap is a whole other issue. Have someone drop you off. Entrance is on the 4th floor in a parking garage, expect to walk. I would definitely recommend the doctor. Have patience in the office and if you need assistance, come with someone.

Dr. Kent Chan is true professional and a good knowledgeable gyno doctor. He wears a suit so he has an excellent appearance.

I went to Dr. Chan as a referral (from a another physician who was actually treated by him) when my mom was diagnosed with cancer 7 years ago. Our experience with him was in one word, wonderful. We were in constant communication with him and his staff. And being in the medical field myself, I can attest to his surgical skills as well. Unfortunately, I found out that I needed an oncologist a few years later. I did not hesitate to return to Dr. Chan. Whether it's explaining my complicated treatment plan, following up with me after my office visits, or just making sure I get home safely, Dr. Chan and his staff are top-notch all the way.

Going to an oncologist while pregnant is stressful enough without having to deal with a cold doctor. I had and appauling experience during my visit. His lack of interpersonal skills, basic empathy and rough use of the speculum had me in tears in the parking lot after the visit. I called the office manager to request to be seen be another doctor in the practice for my follow up because I did not feel I had a good rapport with Dr. Chan. I did not care to get explain the whole situation but the office manager pressed and I explained how badly my visit had gone. She promised to call back and let me know what they could do. The office manger NEVER called me back and basically left a pregnant mother going through a cancer scare hanging. Thankfully my OBGYN refered me to a different Oncologist who assured me I was fine and indeed I was fine. I would avoid this doctor at all costs. Perhaps he may be skilled as a physician, but I expect any oncologist to behave kindly and with empathy.… I did not find this with Dr. Chan.

When you do see him, is he very personable. However DO NOT expect him to see in the hospital after your surgery. Not only will he not see you until your next appointment, he does not even call to see how you are. Staff in Garden City is runs hot and cold. Seems as though they are there just doing their job without much care and or concern.

Dr. Kent Chan is one of the most compassionate doctors I have ever seen. He is very thorough,gentle, and gives you detailed information to help you make the right decision for your needs. The office staff is very pleasant which helps too! If you need a GYN/ONC Do not hesitate to see Dr. Chan.

Our family has gone through several cancer diagnosis with different family members. Dr. Chan helped us through this tough time. We have had both good and bad experiences at several different hospitals, but chose Dr. Chan because of close friends and their experiences. It is very tough to go through a cancer diagnosis and everyone's experience can be frustrating, especially if things are more advanced. I don't write these posts often, but when I do, I mean it.

My mother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of uterine cancer caught in the early stages. She was operated on by Dr Chan. Her incision became infected after surgery and ultimately required weeks of home care . She was later treated with chemo & radiation. Her needs were not met with care & compassion but indifference and people just doing their "job". Her many phone calls to the office were left unanswered and she was very frustrated.Dr Chan may be an excellent physician but he needs to be able to "Listen" to his patients and show that he actually cares. A cancer diagnosis is devastating to the patient & their families and should be address with extreme compassion.
