Dr. Ketan M. Desai

I have found Dr. Desai to be a great doctor! I came in through emergency and with a broken leg and blood clot extending from foot up to waist and he did the surgery, after care and has treated me since! He is an exceptional doctor! I found him personable and caring and am very thankful for his care

I was sent to dr Desai by mercy scheduling after my PCP recommended a vascular interventionist. I’m 52, overweight and yes at that time a smoker. I have never been disregarded by any dr in my life like I was this man. Even my son said what I was feeling but hadn’t spoke “that guy is prejudice against fat people and smokers mom” it was SO obvious. I asked him for help to quit smoking and he said the pcp does that, I asked about compression stockings explaining my PCP suggested I talk with him about it (she’s not a vascular specialists) he shrugged his shoulders and said “go to Walgreens and get some” Then I asked about a specific medication my PCP suggested but it’s given by specialists, he said tell her to prescribe it! Ok....he was clearly bothered by having me as a patient lol. I needed stents placed ASAP so after speaking with his nurse telling her I wasn’t comfortable with his nasty rude attitude and her explaining he was basically having a bad day I allowed him to perform my… procedure. At my after surgery check up I asked why I’m still having pain, he said “because you have other blockages remember we talked about that?” I said “ ummm no we did not! You never said anything about other blockages (my family concurred with me) I’m sure I would remember that as would my family, you said these 2 stents would fix the issues, that’s ALL you said” he said oh well you have others but still no explanation as to where etc. then I asked why the tech performing the follow up Doppler mentioned the right one may be failing (3 months after placement) his response was its narrowing probably because you smoke I said no sir I quit then he blamed it on second hand smoke, I asked if that’s the case why is one failing and not the other? He BARKED at me because that side was worse to begin with! I just ended the visit and won’t be returning to him. This man is off, seriously. I will never recommend him to anyone. Not a good doctor in my opinion.

This is a long review because I am going to be thorough, in hopes of sparing someone considering this office an experience like ours. I brought my elderly mother here for consultation for surgery per her cardiologist request. I was blown away by Dr. Desai's lack of professionalism. I'm an RN and familiar with the physical examinations required on new patients and certainly required on new patients that are needing possible surgery. Dr. Desai didn't touch and barely even looked at my mother. He told her that, "he could do a test if she wanted, it was up to her" to test the circulation in her legs. He didn't explain the procedure, or even share with us the name of said procedure. He shuffled us back to an empty office to get his office assistant to help us schedule. This is where things got really strange. I'm assuming it was lunch hour for the office staff because he had to go find "Julie." Well, Julie comes out from the back, with food still in her mouth, obviously bothered… that we were interrupting her lunch. Julie sped through getting my mother scheduled at the hospital, she read to my mother the pre-op instructions as if she was a speed reader. These were important instructions that my mother should clearly understand. When my mom had questions she was responded to with a hostile, demeaning and argumentative attitude. It was very evident that Julie was annoyed by my mother's audacity to interrupt her speed reading session with a question. None the less, my mother wanted to proceed with the procedure in order to get the test done and to get the results over to her cardiologist. The hospital visit wasn't much better. After the procedure Dr. Desai spoke to me and me only in the waiting area to explain his findings, completely ignoring my father in the wheelchair between us who is hard of hearing and anxiously awaiting news on "his bride" as he likes to call her. My dad couldn't hear a word this man was saying and wasn't acknowledged, so he sat back and let us do the talking, knowing that I would share with him the news. Dr. Desai never re entered the room my mother was in. He went over the information with me and left, like my mother was incapable of understanding. My mom's cardiologist is still waiting for results, despite my mother having to contact Julie and let her know that the records hadn't been sent. Julie apparently was inconvenienced again and wouldn't you know it? Rude! I thank my lucky stars that I am a nurse and was able to make sure my mom was clear on pre and post op instructions and the outcome of her procedure. It makes me angry to see first hand how elderly patients can be treated with such disdain and contempt. The positive side of this, is no one was hurt. My mother had me to take the time with her and make things clearer. This experience has also help raise awareness of my own actions towards the elderly as a nurse. If either Julie or Dr. Desai are reading this review, shame on you! Your career choice should be reconsidered once you are no longer able to empathize, show compassion or treat patients with common decency. Treat the elderly, weak and hard of hearing as if they were your own parents, whether its lunchtime or not!

Dr Desai entered the room, remained standing during both of my visits with his back to the door, clear language that he wasn't interested in listening or engaging with me. I have extensive varicose veins and he didn't even glance. His demeanor was borderline hostile. I spent much of both visits feeling confused & baffled about his overtly fey behavior. He told me my calved were 'swollen' since I used to smoke. I told him my calves were large at age 12. I wasn't smoking at age 12 or even 17. During the next visit I mentioned what age I had started smoking and he denied he'd even said it. I actually stared at him from across the room. I started to feel scared that he flat out denied the conversation, his hostility and unwillingness to engage. This was my first and last strange, creepy, unwelcoming, and uninformative encounter with a medical professional.
