I am writing to share my perspective regarding the professional capabilities and patient care provided by Dr. Kevin Chung. My own experience, following an extensive and challenging medical journey, has been overwhelmingly positive, and I believe it offers a valuable counterpoint to any differing accounts. For a period of four years, I endured significant wrist issues that proved resistant to diagnosis and treatment, despite consultations with nine different physicians. During this time, standard diagnostic imaging, such as MRIs and X-rays, consistently yielded inconclusive results, leading to a prolonged period of undiagnosed pain and deteriorating function. Dr. Chung distinguished himself through his commitment to a comprehensive and proactive diagnostic approach. Unlike previous specialists who relied solely on initial imaging, Dr. Chung undertook a thorough investigation, which ultimately led to the discovery of severely displaced carpal bones and significantly torn ligaments –… conditions that had been overlooked for years. This persistent and detailed examination was critical in finally understanding the true nature of my ailment. The team at the University of Michigan, under Dr. Chung's guidance, provided exceptional support and clear communication, instilling confidence throughout the treatment process. Following the surgical intervention performed by Dr. Chung, the structural integrity of my wrist was restored, with the bones returning to their correct anatomical position and the torn ligaments successfully repaired. While I continue to manage some residual effects, I unequivocally attribute these ongoing challenges to the protracted period of delayed diagnosis and the cumulative impact of untreated injury, rather than to the care provided by Dr. Chung. My prior experiences, including what I perceived as inadequate medical oversight and workplace pressures that necessitated continued use of the injured limb, undoubtedly exacerbated my condition before I sought Dr. Chung's expertise. Dr. Chung's diligence, willingness to explore beyond initial findings, and skilled surgical intervention were pivotal in restoring my wrist function and quality of life. I went to this doctor after being in pain for 6 months, after getting MRI with no results, getting a cortisol shot from an ortho, and a few weeks of Occupational therapy. He comes in with FOUR assistants, examines me for 5 MINUTES without really listening to my complains, and sends me off to an Occupational therapist to get me a brace! When followed up after a week with no improvement, his PA responded by saying that this was all they could do! Seriously? A "specialist" hand surgeon giving a splint and rest diagnosis after 6 months of pain. Pathetic.

Dr. Chung is an exceptional surgeon. After two failed elbow surgeries he was able to revise the previous surgeries and correct my problem. Yes, he does have several hand surgery residents with him at all times....the U of Mich is a "teaching hospital"! However, Dr. Chung's experience is second to none and well worth the extra waiting time that you may encounter. His residents are really quite knowledgeable and they do a good job.....with Dr. Chung always making sure they miss nothing.

Dr Chung seemed too busy to actually listen to me and examine me. He was very brief and relied on his physician assistant or resident to diagnose my problem. He barely talked to me. He did a very quick examination and could not get away quickly enough. His bedside manner is terrible.
