Dr. Kevin Xavier Mckennan, MD

I've had issues with Vertigo over the past few years and have been through a few Neurologists and ENTs. None of which have been able to difinitively diagnose what is causing the problem. I had heard a lot of good things about McKennan so I was excited to see him. When I called to make the appointment, the office demanded I send them all previous doctor notes and test results (to the tune of about 80 pages of patient history from 5 different specialists) before they would schedule an appointment. To me, this felt like I was going to see a doctor that wanted to be informed in order to properly help and diagnose his patient and I was genuinly happy about it. When I finally saw McKennan however, he spent about 10 minutes examining by ears and nose (concluded they looked great) and another 5 minutes listening to me walk him through my history of symptoms before telling me he needed to look through the patient history packet I had sent over. He looked at maybe the first 5 pages,… concluded that the cause was due to BPPV (a diagnosis that has been ruled out by 2 neurologists, an ENT, and my current physical therapist) and asked me if I would like my patient history back. He was polite and smiled but I have never felt so dismissed by a doctor.

This Doctor is fantastic!! Believe me I know I've had chronic ear problems for years. He is a bright, humble, caring and informative Doctor. I would most definitely refer anyone I know that has ear issues to this wonderful Doctor.

Dr . McKennan performed a 3hrs long, very delicate surgery on my ear just 6 days back from now and needless to say the outcome is great as I am up and working. When I first visited Dr. McKennan my condition was already very serious, which I did not even realize, there was an infectious growth in my right ear which was eating its way up to my brain cavity and it was actually a ticking time bomb. If Dr. McKennan had not identified the seriousness of the situation on my very first visit and operated in the next few days I could have had anything ranging from facial paralysis to brain damage. The other thing you will notice about him is his attitude towards his patients, he listens very keenly and patiently and then has an incredible way of explaining things. I loved the part when in between of explaining every thing he pulls out his pen and notepad and actually draws out a diagram to explain the situation. My recommendation for everyone would be to get his appointment if you can and… with his experience and expertise you will be in good hands. At the end all I can say to the Dr. is a big thank you.

Saved my life. Dr. McKennan is a master. He is personable, engaging, and explains every detail (fourteen years later, i still have -mounted- the multicolored drawing he created to explain the surgical process). If every doctor had Dr. McKennan's skills, talent and integrity, we'd be lining up just to say thanks.

I was referred to Dr. Mckennan from my doctor in Reno because the problem I was experiencing was above her level of expertise. At first I dreaded the thought of traveling back and forth, but I'm glad I did. Dr. Mckennan is truly one of the greatest physicians of our time. Very personablle and tells it like it is. He performed a major surgery on me and did such an amazing job. That was just over a week ago and I have yet to take a pain medication! I would place my life in his hands any day!
