Dr. Kevin Ward Mcneely, MD

I started seeing Dr. McNeely at the beginning of my recent pregnancy. He has been absolutely wonderful! Learning how to be pregnant for the first time, and in the midst of a global pandemic, was an interesting endeavor. Dr. McNeely’s genuine care, compassion, and positive disposition made it a great experience! I knew that my baby and I were in good hands from day one. We received excellent care and advice throughout my pregnancy, and I am so happy to report that I now have a healthy and happy baby girl! My husband and I are deeply grateful for Dr. McNeely and his office!

I was referred to Dr. McNeely because I had a very large ovarian cyst and post menopausal bleeding. He did a laparoscopic total hysterectomy and removed both ovaries, along with the cyst. I was very nervous about the surgery but he was confident and extremely caring. I sailed through the surgery and recovery. He did an excellent job, taking great care during and after surgery. He’s been doing this for many years so if you want someone with skill and a lot of experience, then Dr. McNeely is your man! The first 4 days after surgery were a little rough but pain pills and lots of walking helped a lot. Two weeks after surgery I feel great and hardly knew i had it done! I just have to remind myself not to lift or do too much for another 4 weeks so everything can heal. Wonderful dr, i was in great hands.

I am seeing Dr. McNeely for my second pregnancy. He actually attends every appointment which was very different than my first pregnancy with a different ob/gyn. This is pretty significant for any woman that wants a doctor that attends to her pregnancy from beginning to end rather than seeing a medical assistant or nurse. Dr. McNeely and his assistant are very on top of things when notifying me of test results and explaining next steps. He is very cordial and a positive person. The only thing he does that is typical for doctors is that he's wrapped in his thoughts at times when I am asking him questions. He does a decent job at answering my questions. But I think he could be a little more attentive and more detailed when he gives answers.

Honestly there isn't enough good things we can say about him. He has always taken his time, answered all of our questions thoroughly and truly cares about his patients! I say patients plurally because he cared equally for my health, the health of our unborn children and even cared about my husbands thoughts, concerns and questions. Natural birth was pretty important to us and we feared being pushed into things that we did not agree with. Dr McNeely always explains the pros and cons, and yet totally respected us when we declined certain things. Needless to say we had two wonderful deliveries with him at Scripps La Jolla and are preparing for our third delivery which should be any day now:)

This is going to be long, but I need to explain what happened exactl - It was my first pregnancy and Dr. Mcneely came highly recommended by three family members as he was their OB. No questions asked, I wanted him as my doctor as well. My pregnancy was horrible, I had severe nausea, then severe migraines, sciatica and possibly preeclampsia; however, I will never know because my son was born six weeks early. I had extreme swelling in my feet, more in my left foot than right. At this time I was back home visiting family. I was given the OK by Dr. Mcneely and was told to be back 6 weeks prior to my due date, which I came back 10 prior to the date he told me. A day before my flight that's when the swelling occurred and I called the office. I was told to go to the ER and see if there was a blood clot, which I did and which there wasn't and was OK to fly. I understand that flying does cause swelling, but this was on a different level - my feet looked like an elephant's and I'm a petite girl.… I ended up going to the ER in San Diego when the swelling didn't come down. They did urine test, which came back negative so Dr. Mcneely told the doctor to release me. I had an appointment with him 3 days later for a checkup. Again, he took another urine sample, I was told there was little protein but it was normal. I told Dr. Mcneely that something didn't feel right and my right side in the back was hurting. He said that that my son was just pushing against my organs. He then told me that my swelling was completely normal and some women get it more than others. He also told me that I could go back to work. And when I'm sitting at the desk to put my feet up. Of course I didn't go to go work as I knew something was still wrong and my swelling was not normal. Exactly one week later my son was born, six weeks early. I asked what was the cause and no on could give me an answer. Now, I found out that Dr. Mcneely shouldn't have prescribed a medication for my migraines as it's a Class C and it's not good for pregnancy. I do not trust Dr. Mcneely and never could, He put my life at risk as well as my son's. He didn't take the time to make sure we were both OK.

Staff is rude, doctor & nurse are great!

Dr. McNeely really listened and looked at all avenues to diagnose my problem/pain. Other doctors had dismissed my concerns but he listened and SOLVED my problem!!!
