Bad experience with antiquated surgical approach to scoliosis operation.

Im 35 now, when i was 12 I was diagnosed with scoliosis 21, 41, 37 degrees and waz thrown into a back brace for a year & half then told Im good by a other orthopedic doctor i the area. No physical therapy, exercises, or follow ups. It really screwed me up. I found Dr Schoenfelders name in a book on scoliosis when i was 15 or 16. He saved my back. Sent me to physical therapy, massage therapy, had me coming in for regular appointments, gave me a lift for one shoe to even me out & got my back and me moving and feeling better than even. Thank god I found him. I still see him to this day, but now Im down to once or twice a year. Thanks

After going through all kinds of tests and meds with a popular specialist regarding my severe back pain I was finally told there was nothing that could be done for me and that I would just have to live with my condition. I left that clinic. I began going to CHI where Dr. Schoenfelder was recommended to me. I saw him and his nurse Brenda Lee (who I totally love) and they worked together to diagnose me which led to back surgery that relieved so much of my pain that it greatly changed my quality of life! He is caring and knowledgeable and will listen to you and take the time to explain all your options. I totally recommend Dr. Schoenfelder!

Dr.is very good at explaining what he is going to do and then what he has done. his bed side is the best that I have had of the four surgens I have had.

Dr. Schoenfelder (Dr. S) is a no nonsense, very caring, completely competent surgeon. Two neurosurgeons in Spokane could not see why I have had moderate to severe lower back pain for years after any bending or lifting activity. Dr S. saw the cause immediately and has corrected it. He did such a good job that 3 hours after the surgery I challenged the nurse to a race down the hall. I traveled to Tacoma because Dr. S had fixed a severe sciatic problem I had 7 years ago while living in Gig Harbor and I couldn't find a surgeon who could or would help me in Spokane. My wife will do a review later but she has had much more involved surgery than mine. Over the past 2 years she has been to two neurosurgeons in Spokane and having no action went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN twice for a long list of problems caused by life-long scoliosis. No one would help her. On an oft chance, I set up an appointment for Dr. S to look at her mri's and other tests done at Mayo while I was at my 2… week followup appointment. Dr. S saw the causes of her many serious symptoms immediately and scheduled surgery 2 days later. 2 1/2 weeks after her surgery she has feeling returning to both legs and groin area and bladder incontinence is gone. He has changed her life. A supposedly top neurosurgeon at the Mayo clinic could not help her but Dr. S spotted the 4 problems in her back in 10 minutes and fixed them 2 days later. I can't say enough about him. And everyone in his office is just as caring and competent as he is. We could not be happier.

I went to Dr. Shoenfelder because I had extreme pain in my legs after a vacation, and I couldn't keep ignoring it. I went, and didn't even get to meet him until about an hour before I had surgery. At my initial meeting, I met with his ARNP, Brenda, who I wasn't too fond of in the beginning, and by the end, she was utterly revolting and had a horrid bedside manner. Dr. Shoenfelder has a terrible bedside manner as well. For my follow-up appointment, about two weeks after surgery, my appointment was scheduled for 10:30. I didn't see the inside of a exam room until 11:45. The waiting room wasn't very crowded, and patients checked in and were seen and left the office before I was even in a room. I had a terrible experience at this doctor, and if bedside manner and your time are important to you, then I would consider going to a different surgeon.

i went to dr schoenfelder in chronic pain. i told him if he couldnt fix it put me out of my suffering. he fixed it it has been over 10 years now.
