Dr. Kevin Ray Shanabrook, MD

My elderly mother visited Winchester medical center on December 23rd fearing she may have been having a heart attack, as she has suffered one in the past. This man made her feel as though she was simply a bother and, not worth the time of day. She had elevated levels of certain things in her blood work that were indicative of heart issues and this man dismissed her! Against OTHER drs medical advice she has now left without proper medical care. Horrific bedside manner, and a lack of true concern for his patients.

We had a very bad experience with Dr. Shananbrook a week ago in ER. He won't evan want to show up and let us know the test results. We requested his presence a couple of time. He finally showed up. He was not professional at all.

If I could give negative stars I would. I have a very complicated health history & was having unusual pain at an 8 or 9. I’m used to pain, but this was different. He told me I have a pattern & I’m drug & attention seeking & that I should look into mental health problems. He refused to give me nausea let alone pain medication unless he found something “surgical or life threatening”. I have severe PTSD & it was triggered that night. I have had doctors ignore my concerns & end up in comas more than a few times. I was afraid this was going to be a repeat. We just moved so I haven’t had a chance to get a primary doctor set up. He told me that should have been set up weeks before we moved. I’m sorry, but that’s not possible since insurance changed. He also did an Unnecessary I&O cath Honestly, unless you were in an accident or KNOW that you have something surgical, if you go to the ER here and he’s on, just leave, he won’t help you. & will make you feel like you’re an awful person.

When I was seen in the ER (I was advised by the Dr. Office to go in), I was seen by Dr. Shanabrook. He seemed nice enough away first, while other staff where in the room. But, then he changed dramatically when they just. He jumped to conclusions about me and wanted to send me home to "fix my own problems". If I could medically fix my own problems, I wouldn't be seeking help from a doctor. I've been sick for some time and he just didn't seem to want to hear it. I felt that he may of just been having a bad day and I got the worst of it but after reading reviews on several sites, I think he may need to choose a different profession. His bed side manor and empathy is extremely lacking.

Dr Shanabrook took 45 minutes to stitch a difficult laceration on my wife face when we could tell the Emergency Room was extremely busy. He was professional, dedicated, and did a fantastic job.

Best docter I've ever been to. Made me feel comftorble and understood. Found my diagnosis almost immediately. I wish he had his own office.

The rudest most arrogant judgmental doctor I have ever met! My exam was incomplete quick and without concern! I have never met a more unprofessional doctor!

I was sent to the ER by a Walk-in -clinic. for Chest pains, Nausea and Head ache. Dr. Shanabrook Reluctantly was my ER Dr. that day. But instead of addressing my complaint. He approached me in a very suspicious and an abusive manner! The first thing he said to me was not, hello! , but that he was a very smart doctor and that he could diagnosis a patient by their file, before even talking to the patient. That statement alone made me very uncomfortable to start. Then he started to tell me that he didn't believe in Fibromyalgia and that I needed to get off the pain medication. That should only be given to cancer patients. I said ok ! if that's the case what are you advising me to do about my pain. He said very uncaring , I can't help you!!!! After under minding my condition he walked out ! At that point my daughter and I was very upset and requested a patient advocate. She said he was even mean to her and the staff . At that point I felt helpless. After she left, he became more… abusive. I requested a nurse to be in the room with us. This made him ferrous !!! After a few blood test he said that he couldn't fine anything , which didn't surprise him. and told me I could admit myself but he wouldn't advise me to do so! Upset I asked him to leave the room and leave me alone, He refused! Than he told me that I would regret what I said and not to come back to this ER again, because I wouldn't be seen!!! Than he walked out of the room and stood outside in the hall and stared me down. Very, unprofessional I thought and scared me. The nurse did nothing , so I requested the patient advocate again , which did no good! than she told me that Dr. Shanabrook wanted me to sign myself out to protect him ! I refused. I had to leave the emergency room escorted by the patient advocate.Pass all of the ER staff looking at me . Not knowing what was wrong with me I left . How embarrassing and humiliating to be treated in such a manner! I later called the hospital ER manager, who never returned my phone call. Dr. Shanabrook has every right to believe what he wants. But what right did he have to abuse and discriminate against me as a person.

Dr. Shanabrook diagnosed my daughter's illness after we had been to see 3 other physicians who did not know what it was. We wish he could be our pediatrician. Great care!

Went to the ER with a pancreas attack. Came away with OTC heartburn medication 3 hours later from Shanabrook. Had to go to another hospital to get diagnosed and relief from tremendous pain. I could go on an on about how he thinks he is above everyone. He is extremely condescending and will share how stupid he thinks you are to nurse staff.
