Dr. Kevin Paul Shea, MD

When it comes to diagnoses and treatment plans, he's solid. When it comes to bedside manner, personality, and overall demeanor, he is one of the most ornery professionals I've ever encountered in any field. I'm not talking about an expectation of sugarcoating. I didn't have that expectation. All I expected was some civility and an allowance to speak beyond "yes" or "no" replies without being abruptly cut off with a "I didn't ask that" or "I don't care about that". I mean, it's a doctor's office, for goodness sakes, it shouldn't feel like an adversarial setting.

I had both my shoulders replaced 4 mos. apart by Dr. Shea with great results. My recovery has been excellent and my pain is gone. I would recommend him to anyone considering shoulder surgery!!!

There is just no excuse for Dr. Shea’s unbelieveably pompous & rude attitude!! Asked me not to speak, made glaring faces the entire time like he was disgusted. Insulting! Said that I should not be present w my son. Perhaps he does not like a witness. He said that “unless my son was a pitcher, surgery not necessary “. This is before the exam!! He didnt have the mri and I wonder if he will actually obtain it. We sat like 2 quiet mice in front of a hungry tiger, looking for any reason to lash out . My son answered questions in one or two words then was cut off. In a nutshell do not subject yourself to this unprofessional, sadistic, old doctor . Anger management issues. Please retire Im reporting you to AMA CT chapter. There should be professional accountability.

Visiting Dr. Shea was one of the worst interactions I’ve ever had with a healthcare provider. He is rude, lacking in bedside manner, irritated, disrespectful and down right mean. I’m not writing this because he told me something I didn’t like, I haven’t even gotten any information back yet. He was just horrible to visit! He consistently cut me off while talking and made it clear he wanted nothing to do with me. He gave me the impression of a man who hates his job and his life and had no common respect for others. I would hate to work for him. The staff was so kind too! Which is incredible considering how downright rude he is. I would never ever ever go there again or recommend him to anyone. Maybe he’s a good surgeon but at the end of the day he lacks compassion so I wouldn’t trust him to work on me under the knife. No thank you. I definitely felt like if I was a man and his age he would have had more respect for me. How disappointing.

I was a patient of Dr Shea a couple of years ago for a severe pain in my left shoulder, I do remember him not having an amazing bedside manner but since he did the job to alleviate my shoulder pain with a cortisone shot that lasted these past 2 years, I overlooked the lacking in his making me feel emotionally cared for. I recently was in a serious motor vehicle accident and among other injuries have been suffering with right shoulder pain, I came back to see Dr Shea for an evaluation mainly because he helped me the first time ( i am of the mind that a health care professional who is good at what they do in the medical sense is first and foremost. I have to say not only did he measure up to my memory of him lacking in bedside manner , he was also rude to me, cutting me off when I tried to explain “anything” about my discomfort when I was going to show him the picture of the trauma I sustained to my shoulder , he very condescendingly said to me “ I don’t need to see pictures” just… tell me where it hurts. The entire visit he treated me as if he had somewhere better to be and I felt as if I was wasting his time. (I am embarrassed to say i started to get emotional and cry as I was taken a back by his lack of compassion and rudeness. I don’t even feel confident in this particular evaluation at this point. ) If you are looking for someone to listen and hear you, you might want to look elsewhere for a Doctor that makes you feel as if you are not just a number

Had a Slap/Bankart repair by Dr. Shea early 1997. Because I was going into the USMC I needed help with paperwork for medical clearance. As it happens, their was a very short deadline. I contacted Dr Shea while he was at home “after hours.” He completely eviscerated me on the phone and screamed at me, a 21 year old college kid (Trinity College) for having called him at home. Mind you, he refused to return previous calls. To this day, that is the most unprofessional interaction I have ever had with anyone! Explosive, unrepentant, anger issues. I spent 22 years in the USMC by the way. I know what it means to yell at someone. Reading these reviews, I am simply amazed how many others have had similar experiences.

Fantastic surgeon. This is year three and I have no limitations and no pain. I am an 80 year young woman who is very physically active.

I have never been treated so rudely by a doctor. I sat in my car and cried after my appointment. Later I heard through the grapevine that he is only interested in athletes. So this 58-year old woman was not worth his time. I went to another doctor who treated me with respect and solved my issue.

Dr. Shea repaired a torn labrum in my throwing shoulder in 1995 and I’ve barely had an issue with it since.
