I am a surgeon with 42 years experience. I had a radical prostatectomy, supposedly by Dr. Slavin. He left town hours after my surgery, I bled into shock, his pa removed my pain catheter because he thought it was the cause of my bp decrease. I have tried to contact him several times about reparative surgery and gotten no response. In short, STAY AWAY

I elected prostatectomy as the treatment for my prostate cancer. I was told Dr. Slawin is a pioneer in laparoscopic prostatectomy and is the surgeon of choice for it, and so I arranged for him to do it. The surgery went well, or so they tell me. I feel confident that I received the best available treatment. I was also told (by another doctor) that Dr. Slawin is not Mr. Personality; however, I found him to be cordial and responsive to my questions and concerns. He seemed genuinely happy that my follow-up UPSA was very low. And, on a chance encounter in the hallway one day, he stopped to chat very amiably with me for a moment. But this is my approach: I don't require a doctor with a warm bedside manner; I want one who knows his stuff. This I believe is Dr. Slawin. I was sorry to see him leave Vanguard Urology, and I wish him well.

Anyone know what happened to Dr. Slawin. Excellent example of leaving patients high and dry.

We could never get a live person after surgery. We would leave messages and office would take 2-3 days to call back. Reports were never forwarded to oncology my wife had to physically go and pick up. Finally during office visit with Dr. Slawin, we would ask a question, he would say "one moment" leave the room and then never come back. His assistant would come in with the answer. He is a excellent surgeon, but don't expect any personal care.

Dr. Slawin performed my prostate surgery using the minimally invasive Da Vinci robot. With minimal pain, I was released from the hospital on the day following surgery and my post-op recovery has progressed on schedule. My first appointment with Dr. Slawin was within two weeks of my initial phone call. During that first visit I was as able to view certain parts of the testing on a screen as Dr. Slawin explained his findings. I found the staff at Vanguard to be friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and thorough. Waiting time in the reception area for me has been about five minutes per visit. I highly recommend Dr. Slawin for any urological needs.

Dr. Slawin, provided me with immediate testing for my prostate/rectum cancer and quickly acted upon a mutual agreed upon treatment plan. However, my treatment will life long and that was explained to me, because of the type of cancer. Staff are very courteous and helpful even with all the paperwork that must be completed. Waiting time is generally within 20 to 30 min. unless there is an emergency. Dr. Slawin always spends as much time as he can with us answering question. He is very humble with his patients.

I found Dr. SAlawin's office to be modern and efficient. His staff were welcoming and helpful. Dr. Slawin was very knowledgeable and fully informed me of teh entire process.I was very impressed,

Having prostate cancer requiring surgical intervention is a stressful situation, complicated in and of itself. Dr. Slawin, his assistant PA John Dodge, and his work team combined a professional, yet personal, treatment that facilitated this process. The determining factor of any surgery is the doctor himself, so choosing the right doctor is probably the most important decision for a successful surgery. Dr. Kevin Slawin's experience made a difference in my prostate surgery; after the surgery I did not suffer incontinence at any time, and I recovered my sexual capacity within three weeks following the surgery.
