Dr. Kevin James-Edward Stepp, MD

Dr. Stepp was the 3rd surgeon I went to see regarding my post-partim incontience. Being in the medical field myself, I’m pretty picky when it comes to my own healthcare team. If I don’t have a good vibe or something the doctor says just doesn’t sit well with me, I’m out. Dr. Stepp made me feel 100% comfortable about a very embarrassing problem, from the second I set foot in his office. His bedside manner is excellent. He will speak you like a real person and not just another patient on his schedule for the day. He explained explained why the previous surgeons suggested what they did and ultimately didn’t pressure me into seeing him specifically for my surgery. Although, I did choose him and so glad I did. I wouldn’t give much credit to the other reviewers that gave a low star rating but didnt take the time to explain why.

My husband is a physician and when I started having issues with bladder control (subsequent to a hysterectomy), he arranged for me to go see Dr. Stepp. I’ve aleays preferred female OB/GYNs but my husband had so much confidence in Dr. Stepp that I took his advice and went to see him. The office staff was wonderful, which is especially nice when you’re having to speak so freely about peeing on yourself. Dr. Stepp was the utmost professional - which was almost a negative at first because I like to have a sense of humor about these things. That said, his confidence and knowledge regarding solutions to my issues was very comforting. Then on the day of surgery I was blown away by the entire team at CMC Mercy uptown. Every single person I came into contact with was outstanding! They were all kind and took excellent care of me. I didn’t want to go home after my surgery! Dr. Stepp came in and spoke with me a few times while I was in pre-op. He spent time talking to me about the procedure and… my expectations, and I wasn’t uncomfortable at all when he examined me. He just has this way about him that makes things not weird - you can definitely tell he does this all day long and it’s no big deal to him. Anyway, the surgery went extremely well and Dr. Stepp even followed up with me personally the day after surgery to make sure I was recovering well. I can’t aay enough great things about him - it’s clear now why my husband regards Dr. Stepp as the best at what he does. If you’re considering getting the sling for stress incontinence, go to Dr. Stepp. He’s the expert hands down.

Stepp and his team did an amazing job removing my 10cm endo mass from my c section scar. Im pain-free. The abdominal jp drain they used was removed a week post op and led to cellulitis but overall Im very pleased and healing fine.

I had sling bladder (incontinence) surgery done by Dr Stepp a few years ago with no problems at all. Recently I went to another practice for my annual ob/gyn exam. The exam was shockingly very rough and immediately after and for weeks after I had pain urinating, felt bladder tenderness and cramps and then pain, almost like something went wrong and the sling might have gotten messed up. I was freaked out and called Dr Stepp's office to make an apt to have him check me out to make sure the sling was still ok. They told me "I was not a current patient" and therefore, basically could not be seen without a referral. I didn't want to go back to the OB/Gyn practice that most likely caused the problem for a referral, so I was out of luck. I was shocked and disappointed. I found another urogynocologist who heard what was going on and is squeezing me in to his schedule in a few days. That is what a dr should do. I appreciate that urogyno for seeing me, even though I truly am not a… patient there and he didn't do my sling surgery, but he obviously cares about people and does the right thing. Shame on Dr. Stepp's office and his scheduling staff. Very rude, upsetting, and disappointing.

This is an odd practice. They have it set up like he's a person that helps women with endometriosis and related issues, but that's not really how it works. He seems to be a talented surgeon given his training, but he only cuts --- doesn't care for or provide continued care . Endometriosis and the related health issues that go with it are very undertreated by doctors that truly understanding the disease. Finding one in the Charlotte area is almost impossible. Then you get someone like Stepp who is supposed to be a doctor that knows about it, yet he only cuts. Something is wrong with this picture. I've been to his office four times to day, and each time I walk away wondering why I spent money on an office visit. Each time, I've waited an average of 55 minutes IN THE EXAM room waiting for a doctor. One time, the doctor didn't even know I was there waiting. What does this practice do? Do they add value? No. My husband and I have been appalled. What was CMS thinking when they set up… this practice? Insanity at best.

I was referred to Dr. Stepp over two weeks ago. Called to ensure referral was there and was told it was not. Called my doctor to request the referral to be sent and was told the referral was sent. I have called 3 times over the last two weeks asking to schedule an appointment and have been told every time that I will be called once the doctor reviews my referral. Still no appointment two weeks later. Unacceptable

The wait time for the scheduler to call back is not acceptable. I have been waiting over a week.
