Dr. Kevin John Tool, MD

I want to begin by stating that this review is for Dr Tool only and not the women's clinic or his nurse. Dr Tool was my OB while I was pregnant. Dr Tool was efficient in treating me and delivering my daughter successfully. After having my daughter I began to have pain. Dr Tool assured me it was scar tissue and nothing more. I went to him again and he said again it's scar tissue nothing to concern myself with. After 3 years of having this terrible pain I decided to get a second opinion. I was told that it was a cyst not scar tissue and needed to be removed for analysis. Long story short before I would schedule the surgery I had to go back in because the pain at this point was unbearable. Dr Tool was the doctor oncall, he wanted to drain this cyst which I was told needed to be removed. He told me he was going to drain it, sent his nurse to go get the supplies he needed and I refused. I told him I needed to have it removed. He got up abruptly and said He would see if he had an… appointment to remove it. As I was still getting dressed he walks in and starts asking me about dates. I'm still putting on my pants and he's talking to me through the doorway. I am in so much pain I'm shaking and almost crying. He was arguing with me about when he could fit me in for surgery. I told him I needed something ASAP that I was in excruciating pain and could not wait. He closes the door and sends in his nurse who walks me down to another room and tells me Dr Tool has agreed to do the procedure. She tells me to get undressed from the waist down and I wait. Then they both walk in with a release form stating that I am aware this procedure should be done in an operating room and it is extremely painful. I sign the release. Dr Tool sufficiently numbed me so I would not feel the incision and successfully removed the cyst. I had to have ten stitches. After the procedure I was not given any after care instruction, I was told I could go home, take ibuprofen for pain and ointment if needed. I was shaking uncontrollably when I left the procedure room. I was in so much pain ibuprofen and ice weren't helping. My husband who is a fire fighter paramedic knows how high my pain tolerance is called the clinic on my behalf and told them how much pain I was in and they told us they had no record of the procedure that was done by Dr Tool and to come in. I went in and the doctor who saw me looked at my record and again saw no notes about the procedure Dr Tool preformed on me. She gave me lidocaine ointment and mild painkillers to help with pain. I was called the next day with the lab results of the cyst. It was endometriosis. The excruciating pain I endured for 3 years of my life was due to negligence from a doctor that I trusted. It was not scar tissue like Dr Tool had repeatedly told me. I told Dr Tool over and over again that I was in pain and he never took me seriously. The surgery Dr Tool preformed on me 2 months ago has still never been entered into my notes in the office. I never got a follow up call from him or his nurse after I had the diagnosis of endometriosis. I had sign after sign I had endometriosis all along and Dr Tool never took the time to really listen to me. Dr Tool is unprofessional, unreliable, and indifferent. The lack of compassion and lack of professionalism I experienced with Dr Tool is unacceptable. Women should be able to trust their doctors and not be pushed off time and time again by a doctor who does not take them seriously . I am writing this in the hopes that this helps someone else advocate for themselves better than I did. If you are in pain don't give up, keep asking questions, get the second, third, fourth opinion and stay away from doctors like Dr Tool.

Dr. Tool is an extremely informative and accommodating OB Gyn. He takes the time to explain medical conditions and procedures to his patients; he's more technical in his explanations than most ob gyns, but this is what I look for in a doctor. Dr. Tool is also very precautionary in his treatment of his patients - he thoroughly explores the root causes of any abnormalities, rather than dismissing them. His process is to thoroughly explore any root causes of a problem and once he discovers the root cause, he will fully describe the problem to the patient and whether or not it can and should be treated and how it should be treated. His methodology for exploring abnormalities put me at ease, knowing that he had been so meticulous at finding the root cause. I've read other reviews on other websites complaining about his bedside manner, but I found such complaints to be untrue. Dr. Tool certainly isn't the kind of doctor who will be a "cheerleader" type during the delivery of your baby,… however there are plenty of helpful nurses at both PVH and MCR (and of course your birthing partner) who can play this role. Dr. Tool is very respectful of your birthing plan and tries to accommodate it as much as is physically possible. However, he also prepares you for the fact that you may not be able to see this plan through and what courses of action may need to occur in such an event. Dr. Tool has always fit me in for last minute appointments when possible, and always follows up with any problems that were discussed in previous appointments. I would highly recommend Dr. Tool to all of my friends and family who are looking for this type of OB Gyn for prenatal care.
