On the day of my delivery, I was told by the doctor present that I would be having a C-section because that was what Dr. Worley had stated. I was not given a clear explanation of why it was necessary at that moment, what the risks were, or what alternatives existed. I had clearly stated that I did not want any intervention until my support person arrived. I was told the procedure could wait until later that night, which made me believe it was not an emergency. Despite that, once I said my support person was on the way, I was moved to labor and delivery to prepare for surgery before they arrived. The way my concerns and medical history were addressed left me feeling invalidated, as though the emphasis was on disproving what I was saying rather than ensuring clear, collaborative communication about my care. After reviewing my medical records, I was also deeply concerned to find documentation stating I had high blood pressure before pregnancy and during a prior pregnancy, which I have… repeatedly said is not accurate. Seeing incorrect information documented during such a serious medical event only added to my distress. I left this experience feeling that my voice, concerns, and right to informed consent were not respected.
