I had a discoloration on my foot for about a month that hadn’t gone away no matter what I did, and I had not injured my foot, so I just kind of ignored it until the pain started. I procrastinated for a few days and finally decided to go into the nearest ER, which happened to be the Fontana Kaiser. After waiting a few hours I was taken in, the nurse checked my vitals, and then the doctor came in. After explaining the situation I was told “I’ve seen this before, my father had something similar. It just one of those things that can’t be explained. It will probably continue to come and go for the rest of your life, and may even move up to a different area of your body. There is nothing really that you can do except take ibuprofen for the pain.” This was without testing for anything, not a single test. He told me to follow with my primary for a second opinion and that it was not emergency. After the visit I was upset, and immediately called my primary for a follow-up. My primary ordered an… ultrasound and a blood clot was found right at the discoloration. If I had listened and hadn’t continued to try and find out what was wrong, the blood clot could have easily detached and cause a pulmonary embolism.
