Saw this Dr about 10 years ago when I was a teen for complaints of throwing up lunch during after school sports (4-5 hours after eating). This Dr prescribed an IBS medication which did not help at all. 10 years and 2 more GI doctors later and it turns out it’s been sever gastroparesis that causing my issues for all of these years, something that seems rather obvious given the symptoms. The IBS medication this Dr prescribed was dicyclomine, something that relaxes stomach muscles, and is not recommended for and can worsen gastroparesis as it requires increased stimulation/stomach muscle contraction. Sharing now because I got the diagnosis this year and just found my old prescription from this Dr — hoping to shed light on gastroparesis as it can be overlooked by GI doctors, and in my case can even be prescribed medication that worsens it when symptoms are not understood by Drs.
