Dr. Kiley Dru Toder, MD

I have been to Dr. Toder four times. On the first visit she gave me a thorough exam and followed through with blood work three times, making sure she gave me the correct diagnosis. I have no rheumatic diseases, thank God, though I am still in pain with Fibromyalgia. I have been disappointed that there isn't really a treatment for me, but at the same time I don't want my doctor to make one up! She has diagnosed osteoporosis and has treated with Reclast. I'm very happy with Dr. Toder.

She's practicing in Rhode Island now. Words cannot express how upset and disappointed I am after my first visit with her last week. Instead of actually making a diagnosis on her own she was more concerned with what my previous Rheumatologists diagnosed me with more than two years ago. I acknowledged I agreed I have Ehlers Danlos (EDS) and Fibromyalgia but that something else must additionally be wrong since my pain is much worse and my joints are now extremely painful, swollen and stuff. My referring doctor even wrote in her report that she suspected a major rheumatology problem such as RA, yet Dr. Toder didn't feel the need to follow up on that with any imaging or blood work. Yes, that's right, she confirmed my previous diagnosis' based on previous Rheumatologists and discharged me without any further testing. She completely crushed my hope for getting proper care. I sat in my car afterward and cried because my condition has gotten so severe it's difficult to function. I had… misguided high hopes that she would at least do her job and not just follow what other doctors have done. I'd suggest if you do go see her, don't respond when she asks you if you've seen other Rheumatologists in the past and what they said or diagnosed. It's clear she just wants the easy way out or just didn't want to treat a complicated case like me. She did admit she doesn't know about EDS refered me to Dr. Chopra (a pain specialist) who specializes in it but she completely dismissed HER duty as a doctor by neglecting to accept the idea that there could be an additional diagnosis besides the one I had already received years ago. I'm my humble opinion, and I'm sure the medical board would agree with me, she should have at minimum, ordered blood work and seen me at least one more time or maybe called, if the results were negative and it is just my EDS getting worse. Being that every joint in my body swells, stiffens and the pain triples at night and into the morning, I agree with my referring doctor, it's acceptable to suspect RA and it should be followed up on. EDS causes a slew of other problems and being that it's a connective tissue disorder and not a joint disorder, I feel it was sloppy of Dr. Toder to dismis my complaints of flare ups which include skin rashes and joint pain as simply EDS. At minimum, she should have ordered blood work or sent me to another Rheumatologist if she felt she wasn't educated enough in EDS, which by the way is a rheumatological problem which causes multiple other problems. Anyway, I'm just very crushed and upset that I have to find another rheumatologist and wait yet another month or so for an appointment when I could have already been on my way to feeling better if she had properly cared to do her job instead of just passing me off to a pain doctor I already knew I needed. EDS is not as rare as they once thought so I'm certain she will come across it again and yet another patient will be disappointed and uncared for. I'd avoid going to her if you have EDS or even symptoms of RA. Then again, if you don't tell her what you've been diagnosed with by other doctors then maybe she will do her job instead of simply copying other doctors because she doesn't know the answer. Isn't that like cheating on your homework? Aside from all of that, to give a fair review I will say she was very nice and did spend time with me. I guess she just didn't know what to do with me and instead of doing tests and actually learning about EDS to make certain I was being treated properly she passed me off to a pain doctor. I'd have more respect for her if she at least referred me to another rheumatologist in addition to the pain specialist. I wish she would learn more about EDS, not only so she can help people but also so she can further her knowledge and career. Maybe I'll mail her the latest EDS information and maybe she will read it since it rheumatology and she should. Oh well, time for me to find another doctor and start over. ð??¢ð??ª
