Kim Vu, PMHNP-BC, BSN, RN, is the owner and CEO of Simple Solutions Outpatient, LLC. Born in Vietnam and raised in Richmond, Virginia, from the age of six, Kim graduated from Douglas Freeman High School and completed her nursing education at Virginia Commonwealth University. After beginning her career working with the psychiatric-mental health population, she returned to VCU for graduate study and became a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

To improve medication selection and reduce trial-and-error, Simple Solutions offers pharmacogenetic (gene-based) testing. Pharmacogenetic testing analyzes specific genes that influence how a person metabolizes and responds to psychiatric medications. Results can help your clinician choose medications and dosing more likely to be effective and better tolerated, potentially reducing side effects and speeding symptom improvement. Testing is noninvasive (usually a saliva or cheek-swab sample), typically has a turnaround of about 1–2 weeks, and is interpreted by our board-certified PMHNP who integrates the results with your medical history and treatment goals. Insurance coverage for testing varies; we will discuss costs and any prior authorization options with you before proceeding. While pharmacogenetic testing can inform treatment, it is one part of a comprehensive clinical decision-making process and does not guarantee a specific outcome.
