Dr. Kimberly Nicole Janvier, MD

I underwent an endometrial biopsy with Dr. Janvier and had a very difficult experience. Prior to the procedure, I was told it would only take a matter of seconds. Based on that representation, I was not adequately prepared for what actually occurred. The procedure was significantly longer, more painful, and more involved than described. Due to a documented anxiety condition, it was discussed that each step would be explained during the procedure, and I confirmed that I needed that communication. This was not followed. I expressed that I was experiencing pain, but it was repeatedly characterized as “discomfort,” and the procedure continued without adjustment. After the procedure, I was told that the decision was made not to explain the steps because it was believed it would make the experience worse. During the procedure, when there was difficulty accessing the cervix, Dr. Janvier left the room to obtain additional instruments before continuing. This interruption added to the length… and distress of the procedure and raised concerns about the level of preparation. Additionally, lab work was completed in advance and confirmed to be available prior to the procedure, but it was not reviewed. Afterward, I was asked if I had seen anything concerning in my own results, which I did not feel was appropriate. Following the procedure, I was not provided clear instructions regarding expected symptoms, potential complications, or when to seek medical attention. I later experienced symptoms that were described as unusual during a follow-up call. Overall, I felt that my concerns were not listened to, my requests were not followed, and I was not adequately prepared or supported throughout the procedure and follow-up. I will be submitting a formal grievance with HCA and the facility regarding this experience. For context, this experience occurred during a procedure, not a routine visit. Based on this experience, I would encourage patients undergoing procedures to ask detailed questions in advance about what to expect and how communication will be handled.
