Dr. Kiran Iqbal, MD

We were referred to Dr. Iqbal after our adolescent daughter was diagnosed with several mental health issues as an early teen. We thought we were receiving good care, but over time, she seemed to care less, and continue to over-prescribe meds (Effexor, Prozac) with out any consideration to our daughter's changing physiology. Without our advocacy, Dr. Iqbal would have continued to push meds which would have deepened the damage already done for our daughter. Three years later, Dr. Iqbal again ignored what our daughter was telling her, and insisted not only on maintaining her prescription level, but adding another, which would have been directly harmful. We sought a second opinion, and discovered our daughter had been over-prescribed for two years, and possibly could have had lasting damaging effects (Seritonin syndrome), or possibly death, if her current dosage hadn't been reduced. We've concluded that Dr. Iqbal has a profit-motive, and is prescribing meds pushed by the… pharmaceutical companies without any due diligence for patients in her care. We no longer see Dr. Iqbal for any care for our daughter, and it has made a significantly positive difference. Suggest you stay away.

Dr. Iqbal has been treating my child in a protracted high conflict case without ever once contacting me, ever, prescribing and I believe changing medications, and depending on ONLY ONE parent's input from Day One - a parent who psychologically abused me and psychologically abused my daughter, from a young age. I called Dr. Iqbal to try to communicate and was ignored. Instead, they want to soak (and using EMDR to essentially reconfigure) my daughter's brain chemistry using drugs instead of standing up to my ex. My ex has been litigating and relitigating in my daughter's psyche from a young age and people like Dr. Iqbal and Dr. Schuchart go right along. My ex refers to Ashburn Psychological Services as his "court doctors." They take impartial histories from one parent. Dr. Schuchart, in particular, has been doing EMDR on my daughter who has been awash in her FATHER'S perceptions and his litigious narrative that he has used as a shield only for himself, dragging my daughter along the… battlefield, in and out of the offices of Dr. Iqbal and Dr. Schuchart as the latest in a cast of revolving characters in this insane situation involving my child. Rachel Schuchart testified in court today that she doesn't even need "reality testing" to conduct EMDR! Rachel is (mis)treating my daughter and says "progress is slow." ?? Rachel (and prior to her, Maggie Avedisian) has gone along with my ex using them as gatekeepers and using EMDR to keep my daughter under his boot. UNETHICAL on so many levels. Steer clear of Ashburn Psychological Services even if you are a parent looking for a "court doctor." You don't need "court doctors." You need to get along with your ex and use regular therapy if you need it. You'll harm your children-avoid court at all costs. You can't mitigate the damage. If ANYTHING happens to my daughter other than her being the healthy, thriving person she used to be, I'm going to make it my life's mission to sue Ashburn Psychological Services or advocate for its closure. This practice blames the other parent instead of actually holding the one who has control accountable and uses what is supposed to be therapeutic for self-serving purposes.

She is compassionate, caring and very professional. She explained things to me and my husband regarding medications for our son and was not pushy at all.She does not believe in just pushing medications but also believes in therapy and mind body connection which was very important to us when we were looking for a psychiatrist for our son since we were very reluctant to start medicines.She eased our worries and was very understanding and reassuring of our questions and concerns.We recommend her to anyone looking for a child psychiatrist.

My daughter really likes her and she has helped her a lot and has a great connection with her. She is friendly, funny and understanding of challenges kids are experiencing nowadays. She is up to date on new treatment options.

This is the worst place I've received services at...I've been out of at least one medicine and I don't think the staff or my Dr. care if I have it or not..And the staff doesn't seem happy when or if they greet you..when I see my Dr. I'm usually in and out..no personal connection at all..I don't recommend this place to anyone..If I could go somewhere else I would..but insurance elsewhere is an issue

Saw her after a bad experience with another psychiatrist that my daughter saw.She is one of the best child psychiatrists out there that i have met.Was very warm,understanding and playful with my child.Spent a great deal of time understanding my concerns and gave equal attention to my daughter.Always returns my calls in a timely manner.Her first impression to me when i saw her was that she would be a "snob" and not listen but she was the opposite of that.She just looks very "preppy" and like someone who should be on a magazine cover but in actuality she is very down to earth and compassionate.Will never switch doc's again!

She is the smartest,prettiest and the most professional psychiatrist i've ever seen!
